GTX 670 or keep Crossfire 6850s

Thread Starter
I'm in a state of excruciating indecision.

If I get the 670 now I could probably sell my 6850s on Ebay for close to $100 a pop. That would subsidize the price of the 670.

Or should I just wait it out and get the next gen of cards?

Get a 670, overclocked it should be faster then your cards with less power and heat.

I did see a difference, though only slightly, from upgrading to 670 ftw from my 6850's. In retrospect, I would wait for next gen if I could go back.

Pretty much this, I would sell the 6850's now before the price dips too much lower, and remember, always go with the highest single card you can afford, that way no Crossfire issues arise

Would a stock 670 be comparable to the dual 6850s then?

Interesting. It's difficult to find any sort of benchmarks that can directly compare these two specific setups.

One of the main reasons why I want to go to a single card setup. I've had a lot of luck with crossfire, but lately it's just been kind of a disaster. Waiting for driver updates and cap profiles is surely becoming a deal breaker.

A stock 670 will blow tri-fire 6850's out of the water let alone 2. Some other options would even be the 7950, 7970, 660Ti, maybe even 7870

Basically you can't go wrong with any of the above mentioned cards but IMO the 660Ti and 7870 are price to performance sweet spots if you're gaming on a single 1920x1080/1200 monitor.

Edit: Just realized you are @ 1680x1050... 660Ti or 7870 and you are set. BTW all the 7870's just dropped $50 in price in a matter of 48 hours. thumb.gif

It's certainly a valid point that now is the time to sell those 6850's for a decent price. Couple that with the crossfire woes, and I could easily say the slight performance increase is worth it. I forgot how much of a pita the drivers can be.

If the performance difference is holding you back, I could run some benches for you tomorrow night, and give you hard numbers. I agree, it's not easy to find xfire 6850's vs a single 670, that was a bit of a leap of faith for me when I upgraded.

In what? I saw only a slight increase in the games I play, including shogun2, css, csgo, and skyrim.

If you had high performing 6950s, I'd stay put. But with 6850s, I'd much rather get a single 670. In fact I'm looking for one myself, but I can't pick which one there's too many choices lol.
