So really I was just wondering if anyone has done this before, a fan controller that uses the USB internal header for software control. Obviously as it's quite hard for an external peripheral to get data from on board sensors it'd have to use software to get the temps. If this isn't a commercial product has anyone attempted it themself? It doesn't seem to hard, a micro-controller which supports PWM and then either some FETs, a buck converter or a linear regulator. Has anyone else tried this? If not it's something I might look into....
