Would adding a second 670 FTW give an increase in physx processing power or is it like VRAM where a total of 4GB between the 2 cards is still only 2GB effective? I am well aware that few games utilize physx and not everyone needs or wants all the extra eye candy but I would like to get the most I can from my games. I had toyed with the idea of adding a GTX 460 or 550ti for a physx card but as I will be giving my current monitor to my Dad for a new build and picking up a 120Hz monitor this holiday season I might as well go with 2x670 to get the most fps possible.

While I'm not positive I'm going to say no and yes. I don't think it would increase the actual physix processing power as with SLI it chooses a card to use or you do. You cant chose both but you can choose the cpu. The reason I say yes is becuase of sli you have more raw power and the second card could deal with the physix while giving you a boost to total performance. So it will increase performance overall but not directly Physx because i believe its only run off of one card.

Very, VERY few games use PhysX, it is not worth it. If you really play those games, just be sure to get a powerful GPU. A single 670 should be able to handle PhysX by itself and give plenty of power for the game itself.
Also, AFAIK, PhysX only works on one GPU even if you have SLI. I have two 470's, yet on the Nvidia control panel i can only select one of my cards for PhysX, not both.

not so fast. what you are seeing here in the Nvidia control panel is you selecting one card as a dedicated physx card instead of SLIing 2x gtx 470 for instance and having CPU/physx distributed among the cards.
if you ran a benchmark with a dedicated physx card you would see your scores go down but your physx go up
I guess the only real way to see if more cards equals more physx power is to turn off dedicated physx and run a benchmarks with first 2x GTX 470s (for instance) and run the same bench with 3x GTX 470. If you see the physx score go up without then its safe to say that physx, when not set as dedicated physx, is distributed among the cards of an SLI setup

what about sli and a dedicated physx card? Does a single dedicated card still work for physX with sli of two different cards?

this is the best option depending on the dedicate physx card. if you get something like an 8800gt or below for dedicated physx it might actually decrease your performance depending on what type of cards you are SLIing but if you get a 2** series card for Physx you will hae some nice physx for what limited games even use it. its a shame physx has never really seems to blow up
