SS setup help. - Page 2

Well I still have about 65lbs of R22 so I would like to use it. So if this is a 5300btu unit. Would a compressor from a 13500btu unit be what im looking for? End of summer is here an brand new window units are going dirt cheap.

Sure... If it's just for benching. Just keep in mind that some compressors will perform better than others at low back pressure. That's why I stick with known good performers like Matsu$hita and LG's. Ebay is a good source for these compressors.

If you buy local then most of the time you can check the compressor on a display model. Chances are you'll be getting an r410a unit which have smaller compressors than their r22 counterparts. A 13.5K btu r410a will be more like a 10k btu with r22. That's still pretty big... just try and get an r22 unit if possible.

Why not learn to build and do it yourself?

I still like cascades to monster SS.

Once you've played with LN2, SS just isn't enough. Cascade would be great for pretesting for LN2.

I definitely know the costs associated with it. I've looked into it all before. The only way something other than LN2 would be worth it to me would be loads at around -100°C or colder. I'm not in the place to make either purchase yet... so I can dream.

I'm a mechanical engineer, so I could learn to do it... but I really doubt I'd get it good enough the first time for it to be cheaper. Also, don't you need to be licensed to get the right gasses?
