Gaming headset advice

Was initially planning an overkill system with 5 Rockford fosgate t1693 3way 6x9s and building boxes out of fiberglass... But after thinking about my uses for them all I really want is awsome sound for gaming... and a mic won't work well with anything but headphones. I am an Adiophile and my home theatre system consists of a Denon 4806 and Klipsch Lascala horn driven surround sound speakers, a sunfire d12 and a velodyne 10" sub. I think the best option here would be a true surround sound headset (meaning seperate drivers for surround) with a built on mic. I am undecided on wired or wireless but ean more towards wired. Please make suggetions!

I've been suggested that it's better to have a virtual surround headset that uses 2 good quality 50mm+ drivers rather than 6 lower quality ~15mm drivers.

For audiophile quality sound you will need an AMPed sound card roughly like this one. This will in turn mean that a wired headset is mandatory as wireless headsets are USB powered with their own miniature sound cards.

So... Like the Astro A40? Wouldnt it be just fine without a sound card since it comes with an amp? Or are there better headsets? Anyone? Do I still need a soundcard? Seems like my motherboard has a fairly good one built in?

Will you be using them for console gaming? The mix amp gadget it comes with is more focused for to allow listening and chat through Xbox and PS3, though it is also compatible with PC.
Onboard audio is no match against dedicated sound cards. Good headsets will need an AMPed source if you want the sound to be the best that the drivers will support.

If you'll be console gaming then the Astro series are great for it. Otherwise if only PC then it's best to have a dedicated sound card with analog headset.

I am confused based on what makes you think a surround sound headset is the best choice. True they are great from some but I find directional sound much more accurate in games where it matters (like CS:GO) with stereo. I did notice a slight advantage in surround sound on Gotham City Impostors because there were sounds coming from up,down,left, and right , but in the end I still played that in stereo to haha.'

What games are you playing maybe someone will have experience in it with a certain setup. In CS:Go the harx 900 + xonar dg seem almost unfair at times cause I will be at one point and hear them planting on the other.

ok... Im getting convinced that I would enjoy a quality sounding headset more than a surround sound headset... from what I found the Phsyco Carbons are the best for surround sound but maybe I dont need that... Also considering a sound card but I am unceartan what one to get? also would be important that it fits into a PCi Express ... stupid question but is pci backwards compatable anotherwords would this fit my board?
