[Examiner] Sony’s PlayStation 4 to support 4K resolution - Page 6

Some one would have to have some rich parents that willing to throw money at a 4k HDTV. Every day folks will never pony up that much for the cost of a 4K HDTV. If I recall there is at least one 4k HDTV that's on sell now, but not in the usa and it cost a arm and a leg.

Why not? People pay high prices for Smart TV's and 3D HDTV's. We have a £2499.99 Samsung 3D Smart TV that we sell at least two of a week, nevermind the rest. That will normally go with some cables and a guarantee, sometimes even a surround sound system, so there's really no limit to what some people will buy.

Technology sells. With stuff like games consoles supporting such technology it will sell even more. Alot of people that come into my store buy HDTV's because of their games consoles or Blu Ray players being 3D enabled.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this did happen.

if the new ipad can support its own redonkulous resolution for 2D, the PS4 can certainly do the same for 4K. Heck, technically the PS3 should be able to if its HDMI was up to spec

just like how the PS3 "supports" 1080p, the PS4's support for 4K will mean upscaling, with very few if any games actually rendering and output in 4K

I heard the same argument about the PS3 and 360 before they launched... Back then no one had 1080p TV's either...

Still games were awesome on non 1080p, TV's, so whats your point exactly?

And generalising Console games? If you knew anything you would know a majoriy of console games are adults... With Wages, happy to purchase new technology, get off your elitist high horse and admit this would be cool.

Speaking of pixels there's going to be a four pixel soon, that's (Quad Pixel) right red, green, blue and a yellow sub-pixel! There already up and running, just waiting for release. Quad Pixel using 1080P now, 4K for later! A trillion colors, and you thought you had color!

Quad Pixel Technology

Yellow sub-pixel is a marketing gimmick: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/display_myths_shattered

At best, the yellow sub-pixel would fill in the space above the green and red points. At worse, it would skew the gamut and produce inaccurate colors.

Red, Green, Blue are used for a reason:

The only thing I would need to buy to support 4K resolution is a new monitor, once those get cheap enough.

My video card supports it, my receiver supports it (and upscaling to it as well), but no monitor (yet).

when the PS3 was launched, most of us were happy with our old CRT monitors, yet PS3 games looked awfull, especially if the monitor was old or small. When a few years lated HD TVs became cheaper, PS3 games looked a lot better, even in semi-HD.

Story will repeat itself and hopefully in 6 years PCs will be able to play 4k resolution games natively. But I fear there wont be enough money to make such a game.
