GTX 680 @ 2560x1440?

Thread Starter
I recently bought the 680 in my sig rig and was wondering whether or not the RAM on it would support 1440p monitors decently. I was considering getting the maybe a Catleap or Achieva, and wanted to know if my card could run something like BF3 @ high settings (Ultra textures and shadows, and FXAA) decently. Or will my computer just explode under the circumstances? redface.gif

If it won't work out well, should I SLI another one in the future?

with a GTX 680?. ur fine thumb.gif you might have to reduce some settings. but apart from that you are pretty much alright

Will it run the textures at Ultra though? I know that texturing requires a ton of RAM to load everything and just want to be sure.

you are more than fine.

VRAM is over rated.... your card has 2gb on it. companies won't come out with their flagship models if it can't max out on 'current' games at 'current' resolutions (1920x1080 and 2560x1440).

unless you are doing surrounds and at crazy resolutions, then maybe you need SLI.

Even on BF3 at 2560x1440 all maxed out you getting 44.5 fps that more than playable. It also shows the 7970 at 3gb of VRAM is actually a tad bit lower than the gtx 680!!! so shows you VRAM isn't the biggest factor, more of a marketing tool for companies like AMD to charge you a premium ($30-50 more for a 7970 over a 680)

im sure man. my 570 runs at 1080p ultra with and a but load of graphics mods and the FPS rarely dips below 60. with a GTX 680 at 1440p. you are all set mate thumb.gif

I just keep pushing to the limit, all my 180+ games are maxed out. xD Before I even gone into SLI, why I gone to SLI? First card was a bad overclocker so I ended up getting a second one which is likely to be a golden one. Hits up to 1280Mhz.

Just an objective view; want to upgrade to a catleap monitor and thus need to upgrade my graphics card as well. I collected some data of techpowerup comparing the latest drivers at 1600p (should give a good idea of what it's like at 1440p). Tell me what you guys think!
