This build is great, but I would just lend your friend $80 and have him get an HD 7850. Huge upgrade.

Well honestly for that guy's tiny, tiny screen resolution, I'd be looking at a monitor upgrade before spending more on GPU. Heck a 7770 can probably max practically everything on freaking 1024x768.

Maybe a A8 APU + 6670 for hybrid crossfire with 4-8 gigs 1600mhz in that price range
