I was going to suggest something very similar to what xd did. If you only want to play at 1024x768, the 3870K with an extra 6670 can do that and a lot more, plus you get a quad-core CPU out of the deal. And the small form-factor idea is probably a good thing, since if you're talking about playing at 10x7, your friend is probably still using a CRT monitor (not that there's anything wrong with that...).
