[need advice] bondo help

Thread Starter
I need advice on using bondo, using on plastic and metals. The directions don't tell me how to part the hardener and bondo (I.e. 1 part bondo 2 parts hardener.) General advice please?

There is no set amount I know of, personally I mix in enough hardener to make it a light pink color (if your using regular bondo), it dosnt setup too fast this gives some time to play with it.

Just mix a few little batches untill you get the feel for it then go do your serious work.

As a rule of thumb you a golf ball sized blob of paste should take a one inch line of hardener.

Annnnd if it does set up too fast its not the end of the world after all its just bondo, you can cut if off with a razor blade if its not too hard and if its solid hit it with some low grit sand paper or a cheese grater if you have allot.

I use my best judgement when I was testing with it
here are my pics, kinda my results:

It turned out really smooth, and when I primed it, some cracks remained, but I'm not going to complain, its better than having this:

Like you said, using a lower grit sand paper, I will try that smile.gif
Thanks for the great advice!

If you are trying to cover areas with a light coat do not use Bondo from a parts store. Go to a paint store and get a glazing compound that uses hardener, or at minimum something like rage gold. Generic bondo does not sand as smooth as good "plastic filler". On top of bondo you really "need" a primer with hardener also. However, you can get away with a high fill fast dry primer to fill in the sanding scratches.

Also it helps if you put the sandpaper on a wooden block when your working on large flat surfaces, this is to make sure you dont inadvertently cause a low spot.

I've always had my best luck finishing off bondo with spot putty. Very easy to work with and gives a mirror finish with no cracking or sand marks.

I'll take it that op is satisfied with answers.

If there are anymore questions about body filler and how to use and finish it, ask away thumb.gif
