Lenovo T420 SSD Upgrade

Thread Starter
I will be getting a Lenovo T420 4177-QKU from my company. I work part-time (full-time during the summer) at the moment (going to school for computer networking) at a company in my town. I work as a IT Systems Specialist. I will be using this laptop for work and school. My boss put a Crucial 512GB SSD in T420 and loves it.

My question is What SSD should I purchase for my T420?
Hardware of laptop:
  1. Intel Core i5 2410M 2.30 GHz
  2. 8GB of RAM
  3. 320GB HDD
  4. 14" 1600x900 Screen

I will be using a SSD along with another hard-drive in the machine with an ultra-bay. (Let's me get rid of the CD/DVD drive for another HDD.)
Another solution is get a mSATA SSD along with a mechanical and keep the cd/dvd-drive. But the mSATA
SSD tends to be a little pricey.

My requirements are 128GB SSD under $100 shipped. No preference on the vendor!

Thanks guys! +REP to all that help. thumb.gif

The writes seem slow no?

Also could anyone else chime in? I'm thinking of the Samsung 830 128GB when it drops down to 90$ again. thumb.gif

Not really, 200MB/s vs 300MB/s isn't much in comparison to the Samsung, that is if your laptop is even SATA 3.

Its a good drive too. Just do as you said and wait for a sale. I got a samsung for $85 and the 128GB Plextor M3 was $75 the other day.

Take the Samsung and get happy with it. Its very reliable. Controller and memory from the same manufacturer, so no controller compatibility issiues.

Wait a sec. SO your boss bought a 512gb ssd and doesnt want to spend over 100 bucks for yours? ***. No one needs 512GB on a work laptop. If they do, they should probably get some proper backup and use HDD.
