i had my cpu laying on my desk and brushed it off with my hand! now that i told mine, i hope i have inspired you and given you the courage to tell what happened to yours!

When I was installing my 2nd 560ti, my CPU needed more paste as the old one dried off. Now I have NO idea why I thought of taking it out to clean it when I could have done that on the socket as well. Moving on, when I flipped that thing, and was taking out the CPU I accidentally dropped it on my GPU, and then bent pins.
You have no idea how much my hands were shaking while straightening those pins. But all in all, got it working within 5 minutes.

Seriously, with 2 560tis after moving from a 5670, and then to land up with bad CPU would have been VERY painful. rolleyes.gif

Will follow this thread because I know I'll need a new solution the next time I take out my CPU incase I get a Piledriver or Bulldozer.

Too stupid? Can it beat the time that I installed two fans running in opposite directions on my antec 620?

NO MORE BENT PINS! I hope AMD goes the Intel way and puts them in the MB, but I guess they will be "coping the enemy" then.

haha tell me about it! im doing a couple pins at a time, and ONLY doing it when i am completely ready (preferable w/out coffee or energy drinks in my body, usually drink a calming tea before i begin tongue.gif)

afiak, the pins are pulled through the silicon, and not actually soldered on, but correct me if im wrong (would actually help since my dad is quite handy with a soldering iron,he's got one of those expensive heatgun/soldering iron combo kits thumb.gif) the best alternative is to salvage old pins or take dvi pins, stick them in the mobo so that they toucht the broken pin spot, and hope to God it makes contact tongue.gif

does intel really do that nowadays?

also, completely off topic i have a Thunderbird Athlon XP M 2800+ and i want to close some of the bridges on the l5 to get a higher multiplier; is this one of those times to use a pencil? everyone talks about conductive pens and paint, but then again those guides are from 2003 tongue.gif

hoping to get a couple more done today, got about 100 done last night (pretty easy, all were bent in a similar pattern), but the last 100 or so are going to be tricky; theyre bent all over the place! some make complete loops!

Then you end up with bent pins on the MB itself, which is just as bad (or worse).

some one was shipping it in a desktop, it got ruined during shipping, took it back and offered it as a freebie.

I bent a few pins when I took my fan out - forgot to twist it first before pulling it off the mobo, and the CPU can out with it stuck on the bottom!! Almost shat myself, but a quick credit card got them all lined up again, and the CPU has been fine since. There were only about 3 or 4 pins bent, but yeh, shaking like mad!
