[MC/Corsair] Corsair 900D "Godzilla" unveiled - Page 12

I have seen Caselabs cases over the past decade in medical and laboratory settings, and they were what was found in every high end lab I have ever set foot in although the design is different. I will trust someone who has made a reputation for quality in that setting over a reputation in the "gamer/enthusiast" setting every time.

And I have no problem with certain ideas being borrowed, especially if they are good ideas, but you need to only spend 5min looking at NZXT, Bitfenix, Silverstone, and the like to see that there is absolutely no reason why innovative case design is not possible.
Plus, while MM cases are nice, I would trust powder coated steel from Caselabs over plexiglass/acrylic from MM or anyone else, any time. I will be buying a TH10,so if you get yourself a 900D we can get together and both film what happens when we drop each case from the top of a 10 story building. If the 900D fares better, I will buy you 5 new ones, but if the TH10 does better, you can buy me five more. After all, Corsair is infallible so what could you have to lose?



*NOTE: I am not saying that the TH10 would walk away without a scratch, simply that it would be in significantly better shape. And when you are stuffing $3-5K of components inside, don't you want to have the absolute best you can get to protect them?

Of course.if.you drop plastic from 10 floors it.will end in a million plastic pieces.. lol but the 900D will be hallf the price and that's the point..

If the 900D was $600 and plastic then you have a point! But when its a $350 plastic case or cheap metal and.your comparing it to a $600+ metal case.. come on man..

I think its nice.to have a cheap case with a very.similar style at half the.price because.I take good care of my cases and don't.plan on dropping it from 10 floors so it will last a long time anyways.

That's what they are.offering a cheaper alternative.. nothing more

Its a great option for someone who is.only stuffing 1-2k..

Everyone.seems to forget that the case labs cases start at $400-500 but by.the.time.you put all the.other.parts in it you need and pay for.shipping you will be.lucky.its.under $650! Not.saying there's anything wrong with.that since.I am looking at one myself but it seems most.people.don't.acknowledge that.. so.for $350 and.I can walk.into micro center and.just.pay tax and.it.comes with everything.to mount rads and fans I'm happy

100% gaurantee that no case will survive that fall

I get your point about the 900D's market vs Caselabs, and it is a sound argument to me with one exception: the 900D advertises, allegedly (we assume this is even real, I am not convinced either way), that it supports 2x/ea 480 and 360 rads. Now that is some serious hardware, and with that much cooling capacity, likely a $1,000 loop alone (assume 1x CPU, 1x MB block, and 2-4x GPU Blocks, 2x pumps, etc). The 800D is pretty universally regarded as a terrible case for air cooling but an excellent case for water cooling + modding.
I simply have a hard time believing that anyone who would spend that much on a water loop wouldn't spend at least 2k on components.

I will admit that perhaps I have been overzealous, and I apologize for coming across as brash/unreasonable. I simply think that Corsair as a company is trying to stick their fingers in too many pies, and the end result is that the consumer gets screwed by subpar components. I believe that there is only one way to get their reputation back, and that is to focus on releasing a small number of very high quality products and branch out from there. I would really hate to see them become yet another example of a company that tried to grow too big too fast, became okay with releasing under performing and overpriced products, and failing in the end. This has happened to countless corporations, in every industry, and the enthusiast PC community is a small one compared to automotive, air travel, and other industries that have "led by example" in this scenario.

I guess I may be a bit jaded, especially with their memory products (seriously, Dominator series memory is awful for the price, it is not the top line memory, and it should be competing with Ripjaws Z, Mushkin Redline, and the like). I would honestly not be surprised to see Corsair branded monitors, "Custom liquid cooling" parts, and the like in the not too distant future. How much of this before they realize that they are not going to capture a market by throwing money at it?

Let me put it this way: no one would get excited or lust after a Ferrari 458 Italia if you could get one for $25k because they decided that instead of making some of the absolute best cars/engines in the world, by hand, to the tune of a few per day, they would be better off constructing them on an assembly line and making a few thousand per day. Suddenly, something that is truly special becomes just another face in the crowd(ed market).

I'm suspecting this is a rival to the Cosmos II and not the STH10!

That thing is probably about 1.5 times larger than a  800D... Hm... meh leik!

Awesome i was close to buying the 800d a couple days ago and i just told myself to wait. Im wanting to do a big watercooling build and this case will be mine, unless its priced out the wazoo.

Probably going to have the same ratio for price too.

Seems like they copied my concept which I posted months ago. lol
