[MC/Corsair] Corsair 900D "Godzilla" unveiled - Page 222

George, I was wondering if the bottom compartment doors are removable? In all the pictures I've only seen them swivel down, but it might be nice if they could be removed completely for cleaning.
Which leads to my next question: as the front and back are cast aluminum and the top is all mesh, might you be inclined to offer replacement panels (for both sides, top and bottom) made out of aluminum? That would give the entire case an aluminum look, aside from the back, and would be amazing.
Also, are the side panels made of the same material and finish as on the 800D? As frankly whenever I have to touch that material it makes my skin crawl. The mismatched look with the brushed aluminum front isn't helping either.

Yeap, every manufacture like to build plastic cases and then sell aluminum versions of parts for triple price on their website biggrin.gif You are one of the guys who always pushing dislike button, aren't you?

Maaan, check out Corsair's website, there is only 1:1 copy of all parts for cases. Also case parts painted as much close as it can be; Nobody did paint job 1:1 because it's different materials! But from 20 cm it's becoming hard to say after first view that it's different. Plus it's cool to have some places different just for accent.

The bottom doors can be removed with the removal of the hinge, which is on a couple screws.

As for the full aluminum look, sorry man. Re-doing the side panels out of pure aluminum would require a completely different set of tools, costing up into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the sales just don't justify it.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but it's just a matter of personal preference.
Some (most?) don't care about it and it's hardly a deal breaker for me either, but I think there's room for this kind of complementary product that some people would appreciate.
I wasn't expecting George to make this case out of hand crafted aluminum inlaid with diamonds and gold, as I understand that in order to reach a certain price point you have to set your expectations accordingly, and I'm grateful that Corsair is offering this many features for a good price.
And I don't thing anyone can accuse Corsair of cutting corners just to sell higher grade upgrades later, but there's certainly nothing wrong with offering additional upgrades for people who want them.
For example, I imagine some might want an upgraded front port cluster that has all USB 3.0 ports and it's something I can imagine Corsair selling a few years down the road when USB 3.0 has completely permeated the market.

Aww that's too bad... I completely forgot about the retooling that would be required for processing aluminum.
If you do happen to retool for aluminum in the future for another product you could revisit this request smile.gif
I think the side panels just bothered me this much because I have the 700D without the window so it's very obvious. From what I've seen of the 900D so far there's hardly any of that material visible.

George,

Have you considered selling the door panel without the window? It would be nice for people who want to make a custom one or don't like to see the inside redface.gif

Hey George,

I know this is probably one of those questions that'll get an answer that's fairly vague (due to the nature of the fact that it's still being worked on), but have you got any rough idea on a release date/price for Australia?

Looking at the FAQ and the rough prices/release date for EU, can we expect the same? So roughly mid to late march and similar pricing (~$350)? Considering the large markups here in Australia, can we hopefully expect ~$350?

Thanks smile.gif

The side panels are reversible and the solid side panel will be available for those who don't like windows.

Not sure how Australia is priced. There's some differences. Using Altech.com.au:

200R is $59 in the US, $89 on Altech
300R is $79 in the US, $119 on Altech
500R is $129 in the US, $159 on Altech
800D is $299 in the US, $349 on Altech

So assuming a $40-$50 price adder, I'd guess you'll see the 900D for $399ish on Altech once its in inventory. Hard to say, though.

I think if you thought the 800D felt solid you'll be very happy with the 900D. It's our best-built case yet, I think.

To give you an idea of the minutiae we're working on now, one of the things on the list of fixes is the specific hue of the white power LED as it shines through the power button. It's slightly yellowish now so we're tweaking the plastic/label so it comes across as more true white (somewhere north of 5000k).

I have never owned a corsair case before, but I have heard really great things about it, and I have seen them in person at my local micro center and the 800D hands down was really well built along with fit and finish, so Im pretty sure that the 900D will be great.

I had originally bought an 800D as my first high end case and it's definitely better to go from the Switch 810 to the 900D than it is to go from the 800D to the Switch. The quality in the 800D really set the bar for me for cases. Whenever I buy lesser cases and they are made of cheap plastics or less sturdy material, I am disappointed. I've never used a case labs, danger den, or other high end cases, but the high end Corsairs are really great.
