Need advice in upgrading. - Page 3

post #21 of 32
Backpedal for a second. The GTX 560 needs two 6-pin power connectors. Search tells me the hd 6670 doesn't use external power. OP be sure that your PSU has at least 2 PCIe connectors.

(Long, but PLEASE read... Great morals are to follow...) {PROMISE}

A whole new computer isn't really needed. What really dictates performance is the CPU, Mobo, GPU, and (very slightly) RAM.

Assuming his board uses DDR3, (because most FM1 boards do) then he's good on ram as long as he has 4gb-8gb. All he needs to focus on is the CPU, GPU, and mobo to hold it all together.

If he buys only one piece to this puzzle, he'll have to wait, save, and depending on how long it takes, wait some more. By this time, his "new" gpu / cpu+mobo might be slightly dating, or even more importantly, BE MUCH CHEAPER. Computer parts are CONSTANTLY getting better, and dropping in price. If he instead saves his money now, and waits while saving even more, he can buy a MUCH better cpu + mobo AND gpu for the same price, if not cheaper.

Really, from what you are saying, they (those three components) are hindering your computer use, and they will all needed to be upgraded. So wait, and get better things after you've saved for both.

I'll give you a few really nice examples...

Both of my 7970's:
paid $515 shipped for the first one here. (back when newegg had them for about $540 new) But. One... one week later... GTX 680's are released out of nowhere, and then yet another week passes... The price of the 7970's dropped nearly $85 on newegg, and everyone is selling them here used for $450.

A month later, I buy my second one for $410 locally used. I still saved money in the long run because I bought used, but I could have saved MUCH more had I waited.

I've actually done this a few more times in the past, and yet even more recently with my newest purchase of a 1 week old MSI GTX 680 Lightning Card. I payed $520 with 2 day shipping from an memeber here at OCN. TWO HOURS. TWO FREAKING HOURS LATER. Newegg drops the price from $599.99. They took off $30, toss in a $20 MIR, and to top it off, gives you a free copy of Borderlands 2. A game I plan on buying. The way I looked at it, I was spending $490 on the GPU, and buying Borderlands 2 for $60. (original price)

I can't stress this enough. You need to wait. BUT do not wait too long, because sometimes deals will slip away, or someone else will buy something before you can, or a special might expire.

I do hope this helps. And not just help OP, but anyone. I wish I could tell the whole world this. It doesn't even have to apply only for Computer parts...

I have one already, and the EVGA card comes with one 2-molex to 6 pin adapter.

Flip a coin.

Heads = CPU and mobo.

Tails = GPU.

I honestly think they are both really bad upgrades for $200. Go browse the OCN marketplace.

$150. I bet you could haggle him down to at least free shipping... Thats with only 2 minutes of looking.

Edit, I think you said you need molex adapters.... that comes with no accessories. I'll keep looking if you won't D:

We've gotta get you the best! thumb.gif

Ok frist thing what speed is your ram? Anything less then 1600 you drasticly hurt your graphics. The best bang for your buck is to go to the A8 3870K. This dose 2 things 1) its a cpu upgrade 2) a graphics upgrade. Then faster ram 1866Mhz (over clock it to 2000Mhz) Then a 6670 gpu to run crossfire with the built in gpu This will diffently improve your gamming and genral use of the rig

total = 230.00

here is a link that will show you what you will have using this upgrade

Definately look at buying used, heck even some used cards are still under warranty for peace of mind, and you can save a boat load of money buying used!
