Long time lurker, first time poster!

I am quite familiar with building rigs, except in the area of video cards. Could I have your esteemed opinions on a video card that is quiet - fanless or otherwise - for my new rig?
  • I am NOT a gamer, and DO NOT PLAY GAMES OFTEN/AT ALL. Being able to play some may be nice though - even at a low FPS.
  • I am currently using 2 monitors (one for e-mail/browsing, one for programming) - DUAL DVI OUTPUT, and 1 HDMI? is needed as I may be expanding to 3 soon
  • I do watch movies
  • Budget < $200
  • I have heard that AMD Radeon would be the way to go... is that true?

If you never want to really play games get a HD 5450, epic for HD movies, and even some minecraft (mine played metro 2033 on low at 30fps lol)

If you do some gaming maybe a 5570? or a 6670?

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to the forum! biggrin.gif

There was a fanless 6850 a while back..
I'd suggest to not go fanless though, due to the PC having to have fans. Onboard Intel HD won't work either as it only has a single DVI out..
Hmm, I'll see what I can dig up smile.gif

EDIT: You'll like this, might be a bit overpowered though smile.gif

Thanks guys! I should also mention that I'm not against modding with an after-market cooler, but given my needs, I don't think that will be necessary.

Oh, I had a HD 4850 awhile back, it did have a fan, but it was seriously quiet, I mean, the hard drives spinning made more noise than it, even during heavy load. And it only cost me like $30.00 so you'd be saving a ton of money.

I have my eye on this one so far, but wouldn't mind paying more if necessary.

Newegg's selection of fanless cards http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709+600029795&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&IsNodeId=1&Subcategory=48&description=&hisInDesc=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&AdvancedSearch=1&srchInDesc=

Looks like the output options are slim. Better idea to get a similar gpu (like a HD7770) that has the ports you want and get an aftermarket fanless sink.

Oh nice, a 6770 will be very capable, and to be honest will run any game there is, it will run games like Battlefield 3 on medium to high settings well.

Thanks! I had a look at that list. Due to my need for dual dvi-outs, this is pretty much what it boils down to for a semi-performance card.
