[BBC] Hewlett-Packard makes $8.8bn loss - Page 5

I image 100's of HPs and Dells every month for business. I would gladly take a hp over a dell. Iv out of all machines Iv had a lot less hardware problems with HPs then I have Dells. I like Dells service better but both companies have there ups and downs. Its a shame they have to let people go.

I bought a HP dv6 notebook earlier this year and I'm extremely happy with it. I7-3610QM 2.3ghz, 8GB ram, 650M GT 2GB, extended battery 9cell, SSD built in, 1TB drive, for sub 1000 dollars. Its played every game I've wanted at very high settings, the battery life can last up to 6-7 hours depending on the profile and what I'm doing. I've never been a fan of laptops, but this one has completely changed my mind.

Edit: The beats built in audio is actually really nice as well!

Having worked in CS for HP for a year, I can pinpoint the exact issue. The customer service, and more specifically the call centers located in the Philippians and India. I can't tell you how many times I would get a call from an angry customer because a foreign agent had charged them 3x for the same thing, or sell them something that would supposedly fix an issue, and it of course didn't.
It all really boiled down to the managers and trainers. Those who were trained and managed well did very well there, made customers happy, and in general most people had a positive experience. But with the lack of accountability the foreign agents had, they could charge you for something you didn't need, then put you on hold for over an hour hoping the customer would just give up and hang up.

On top of that, the way they treated the employee's that actually cared about their jobs was terrible. With the terrible pay, and the way they hide behind corporate rules, I can see exactly why they are going down the drain.

That said, they do have some really nice notebooks that I still recommend after working there. Printers are very hit and miss with them, I've had some really good experiences, and some really terrible ones.

EDIT:
Also does the massive loss they took on the Touchpads factor into this? If so, then that makes much more sense. I believe the cost of production for those was slightly over $275, and with HP dropping them to $199, I can see how they could have taken the massive hit.

I don't feel bad. HP designs some of the worst desktops and laptops in the industry. I'm tired of working on them for customers.

this is a dumb comment. all computers have problems. hell in 2006-2008 it seemed like every dell sold died a week outside of warranty. hp is not as bad as some of the other companies now. you work on HP's more than any computer cause they sell 3x's more than anyone else.

Is that on top of their crap hardware? Also, I don't think subsidizing the Touchpads equated to anything to make a blip along the lines of 8.8bn.

If by 'crap hardware' you mean Intel/AMD CPU's, Asus and Foxconn motherboards, Samsung ram, basically the same thing that comes in every other notebook brand, then sure.
Seriously, regardless of the name brand on the outside, most notebook parts are all manufactured by the same companies.

that is the hardest thing to get most customers to understand. you take a dell and an hp, same screen size and same cpu and try to explain that dam near everything in them is the same and they still dont get it.
