Shorten cables on a Silverstone SFX 450w psu?

Hey guys, so im going to have to shorten the cables for this psu, Im guessing the best way would be to take appart the connectors, pins and cables; Cut the cables, then repin and then re-sleeve them? redface.gif

Since i dont know anything about sleeving, if i was to sleeve the cables, what diameter sleeve would i need for the 24 pin and the rest of the cables (8 pin, sata, molex etc)? something like 1/2 inch for the 24 pin and 1/4~1/8 for the rest?

Any help would be appreciated biggrin.gif

Thanks again!

I was thinking about doing the exact same thing. With cable ties and mounts I was thinking about shortening the molex to where it was only just long enough to get outside of the PSU. Was going to shorten the SATA cables quite a bit too since I just ordered some 5" SATA cables. Possible drill a hole in the side of the PSU and mount the SSD/HDD there with zipties or something. Undecided with the GPU/CPU cables.

My only concern with this is that I have nothing more than a soldering iron, cheap sleeving, and heatshrink. No specialized tools, experience or anything else for that matter.

This looks cool but it is definitely out of my budget/skillset:

Edit:
Hoping I didn't necro-bump this too much.

oh wow, i def didnt expect a response after about a week, just so happens i just checked the psu section tonight tongue.gif gah i still havent got around to shortening any the cables yet though.

I did some research (since i have no experience with sleeving/ psu mods or what not) seems that you have to desleve/pin the cables and clip the ends to the desired length, solder on new pins, heatshrink, sleeve and heatshrink again.

... I think i got the process right redface.gif

Another thing i was thinking of was replacing the molex with a smaller connector like a square 4 pin or something, hmm..

That psu though looks REAlly nice! hah out of my skill set as well biggrin.gif

+rep for the response ! biggrin.gif

PM if you go ahead with it. I'd like to know your measurements, tools, etc#. Chances are I won't have the money to go towards something like this for a while so there'd be no harm in planning ahead. A decent soldering iron kit, soldering assistant, wick, etc# is only $25-ish on amazon but if I were to do it it'd want to do it right. Having just gotten my short sata cables in the mail I'm quite anxious though, haha.
