Imposible to access "some" server shares - advice?

Hello, I need some help with a problem a friend asked me. I tried to fix it and couldn't so maybe some more network-savvy folks on OCN might figure it out biggrin.gif

The network topology in a small company office is: one server 2008R2 that is configured as file and printer sharing and 8-12 clients that need to access intermittently some files that reside on the server. From my point of view the server is a glorified NAS for now (they intend to do more with it).

*One server HDD is completely shared inside the network. Clients have full access (R/W) on the shared drive.
*the shared server drive has been "mapped" in each client (map network drive)
*all files that were on the HDD when it was shared, are accessible to everyone
*the server is managed using RDP from my friend's client PC (she became the designated "IT guy")

*all files and folders that have been created/copied using RDP to the drive are inaccessible from all clients; from a client we can see the folder in the root of the share, but double-clicking on the folder gives the error that the folder is not accessible or don't have the right to access it.

The question is why are those new files/folders inaccessible from the clients, while the old ones are ok. I have checked if the drive is shared and it is, all other files are accessible from the clients, the max number of connection is never reached. I have unshared and shared the drive again and nothing changed. From the client I accessed the shared drive from the network/server... win explorer with identical results as accessing the mapped drive.

I know I'm missing something mad.gif... what do you think?

*Edit: typos

Sounds like the permissions aren't applying correctly. Try making a sub-folder inside an already working share. Check and see if that folder can be accessed. Make sure that rights are being inherited.

I may have missed it, but you don't have this problem when physically at the server?

I have access to all files from the server weather I'm using the server's hardware or if I RDP from a client. If I create a folder within a working share, the new folder won't be accessible (it can be shared manually, but I would prefer not to have a share per new folder/file)

It looks possible the access rights are not inherited...

Thanks
