Because I just found out I can get the Ultimate much cheaper than I first thought, but still £30 more expensive than the non-ultimate. I don't really need backlighting, as I've been using my Arctosa for over a year. Another thing that concerns me is that the coating technique used to allow the backlight to shine through will lead to this (this is what happened to my Lycosa)

I bought a Tt Meka G1 when I built my rig and love the Cherry Blacks but regret not going with a backlit KB (fixing that mistake this week biggrin.gif ). Anyway, the WASD keys started to fade within a month so to stop any further "fading" I just put a thin coat of clear fingernail polish on top of the keys. Problem solved!

Only the Blackwidow from Razer is mechanical. The Lycosa and Arctosa are rubber-dome. As far as Ive seen the Blackwidow has showed no such problem.

Why do you want that specific model.

For 70-80$ the blackwidow is an excellent choice.

Dont buy the ultimate, though. There are better choices at this price range. I've heard really good thing about those : http://www.maxkeyboard.com/ , for instance.

To OP : Blues are not bad for FPS. Some peoples decided that reds and black were better and have been very vocal about it, that's pretty much it. The only real complain about these AFAIK is the fact that the actuation point is a bit lower than the ''release'' point, which doesnt change anything, really. They say that it's hard to double tap but.. yeah. I dont know.

It's really only about preferences.

If you never tried a mechanical keyboard, blues would be a good choice. Their force diagram is somewhat similar to a membrane keyboard (somewhat is the keyword), and I really find that there is a huge ''wow'' factor to them. You will really feel a huge difference when you will try them. TBH I found reds to be a little bit dull after being used to blues biggrin.gif Now that I got used to them I prefer them, but yeah, preferences.

The only thing I can say about the black widow is that it seems to have inferior quality switches that degrade very quickly compared to good quality Blues, and that it has some problems with shorting.
Pretty much par for the course for Razer.

However, for the price, its probably worth getting.

Got any proof to support this?
I'm having a hard time to believe that.

The only problem that I had with mine is that the stabilizers were not proprely attached to the keys, but nothing that a little bit of glue cant fix. The keycaps are also bad but that's to be expected in this price range.

RE: How bad are blue keys for FPS gaming?

I have the BWU keyboard and play BF3 all the time as my main game. I have had no issues at all. I'm always one of the top players...need I say more :-).

The bolded part I can agree with but not the rest. A lot of people say the Blackwidow is fine. Also how do u have inferior quality? Im pretty sure Cherry Corporation manufactures all Cherry MX Blues, Reds, Blacks, Browns, and clears.

Well for £70 I can get the standard BW. It's £100 for the Ultimate. And £130 for Ducky Shines.

I thought there was a company called Cherry and hence that's where all mechanical keyboard manufacturers get their switches from?
