Memory timing issues

I am new to overclocking, and I can't figure out how to determine what I need to change my memory timings to. I have been searching google for what feels like ages and only found information about what everything stands for, but not an effective walkthrough telling what to try changing, and whether to raise or lower timings. I could care less about overclocking my memory since I am only going for a CPU overclock. Could anybody point me in the right direction?
