I think when I get some extra $ i'll just sell the 800D locally and getting a smaller case to see if I get better results. I really don't need this huge case anymore, I use to have water cooling but went back to air because my 3770k didn't care either way. Now I have a huge case with tons of fans, when I don't need it.

Would prefer something smaller and more portable anyway.

I think there is definitely an issue under the IHS. 12 hours of 80-90C, and my Noctua D14 is barely warm.. even the bottom part. I'm 100% sure it's making great contact, which makes me believe it's heat being trapped elsewhere.

Why they put TIM under the IHS on a higher end processor is beyond me...

You need to get some active airflow in the 800D. I'm suspecting his Antec case, like many Antec cases I have seen, have vents everywhere that ends up collecting dust in a month or two. No need to ditch a perfectly good setup for a few degrees that doesn't even have an impact on your performance.

It sounds like you've got the upgrade bug to me and you're just using this as an excuse to buy new things biggrin.gif

Why they put TIM under the IHS on a higher end processor is beyond me...

I think they put tim under the IHS to Limit Ivy Bridge Overclocking As not to hurt the Sells of Sandy-E

Lets be Honest here if IB had Solder under it.. it would curb stomp the 4 core SB processors into the ground.. Temps / Mhz wise..

And if you look at the Performance of a 3770k With a 3930x at the same clocks with programs that only use 4 cores there so close it is scary..

Now if IB was able to OC 200mhz/300mhz farther 70% of the people who got SB-E after IB release may have went a diff path.

That is my Theory on the matter we all kno Intel knows better then to put tim under a IHS.. So that makes us question why... And the only Rational ANSWER is not to hurt the sells of something they got priced really high and are making a killing on the mark up.

You are probably right. tongue.gif

I offered to build his computer for him (since he didn't know how), mainly because I had the itch.

O yea I mean there is definitely no worry, most people who use their rigs for gaming never hit a full load anyways. My linx loads are what I was talking about never getting above the high 60's. my game temps stay in the 40's and 50's, which is why I was wondering.

What are your ambient temperatures?

The bug gets all of us. My cards will pump out serious frames for all of the games I play and usually maxed out (1080). But the 670 keeps whispering sweetly into my ear.
