OC'ing an FX-4100

Thread Starter
I'm running it on a ASUS M5A97 EVO motherboard. Also have the Hyper 212 Plus with 2 fans in push/pull. Idle temps seem stable at 30C at 4.46Ghz (I used TurboV).

Now, I want to overclock higher if possible. But I have no idea how to overclock. The only way I got up to 4.46Ghz is because TurboV did all the work. Can anyone basically baby step me through the process?

Also, 2 more things. How can I check my load temps? And, my frequency will go from 4.46 all the way down to 1.75Ghz. Why is that? And is there anyway to stop it?

Sorry for all the questions, but one last one. My cpu fan runs at less than 1000rpm. How can I fix that, and will it make my temps drop any?

Welcome to overclock.net the pursuit of performance

Please fill out your system specs in your profile to make it easier for others to help you.

Please utilize the search function before asking your question. Read through the stickies and utilize the guides found there.

To answer your questions,

1) Take a look at El Gappo's guide in the stickies, as well as AMD's official guide in my signature. If there is a specific question, feel free to ask.

2) Your CPU could be downclocking to save power via AMD Cool and Quiet Technology, or it could be throttling to save itself from transistor thermal runaway. Check your load temperatures with Core Temp, CPUID Hardware Monitor, AMD Overdrive, or a plethora of other utilities you can find using the search function. I do believe that ASUS also has an in-house utility that is probably on your motherboard's install disk suite.

3) You can probably manually control your fan speed in your BIOS.

Does that help? I'm also running AMD Overdrives Stability tests. CPU is maxed out at almost 100%, and I'm having no problems. Temps haven't even got close to 50C, so I believe that's good.
