Upgrade or save for new rig?

Thread Starter
I'm trying to improve my current gaming rig.

Originally I had planned to oc my current cpu to 3.6+ghz and get a gtx 560ti. Then eventually get a new pc and transfer the 560 and get a second one. Now I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble. Should I bother to oc my current processor and get the a new gpu or would the increase in performance be to small to make it worth doing?

Hmm I wouldn't bother with the CPU, that one is still arlight for gaming, if anything Get a GPU. That 8800GT is old and slow now.

But if you wanted to build a whole new rig we'd need a budget wink.gif

What games are you planning to play?

What resolution?

Please list the whole specs of your current computer

Most importantly, what is your upgrade budget?

Skyrim, far cry 2, far cry 3?, diablo 3, witcher 2

1280x1024

Specs should be in sig now and budget would be 1000-1500 rough guess

well in any case I wouldnt go with the 560 , its still in the lower 500 series nvidias , I just upgraded from a 550 Ti to a pair of 570s , the 560 isnt bad its just rough to upgrade only to still be at the bottom of the chain , you can get decent prices on 570s on the market or even new they arent too expensive , also with the 570 ( or newer ) if ever you decide to watercool there are full cover blocks available ( not all models though ) .. I would invest a bit more and get a gpu that will last you a while and then in a year or something when you get the itch you can always get a second and sli.. Your resolution isnt huge and games arent too demanding so I wouldnt go all out and buy a 670 or something , stick to a 300$ Gpu budget and then save up for when you want a new cpu like a 2600k or something with its mobo.
