We are working as usual, first with a relatively small team on a next-generation project," said Hakkinen.
"One wonders all the time: Can the new consoles really be that much better than the previous? Rest assured: they are, it is a quantum leap.".

Yeah, because they're going from very early-gen DX9 hardware to late-generation DX11 hardware. PCs push graphics a long way in 10 years, and consoles are going to have the luxury of riding those coattails each and every time.

People can whine and moan on OCN about consoles, but fact is they fulfill a pretty interesting niche. They introduce people to developers, video games in general, and serve to push profits on the companies we know and love.

I expect to only get the next XBox, but I remain pretty excited for everything. I'm incredibly fascinated by the amount of optimization companies can do with the given hardware.

And we'll be lightyears ahead of them in 2 cycles (years at this point depending on how fast AMD and nvidia release GPUs) I expect we start seeing 8xxx HD series GPUs from AMD within the next 5 months. From what I can see they are going to be using Northern Islands GPUs... Southern Islands if they are really lucky. By the time these things hit the market we should be on HD 9xxx or HD 10xxx (or another numbering system)

Upon release the gfx will probably rival that of high-ultra graphics on a PC(like every gen).

I just hope they accelerate their release cycles compared to this generation. Games are completely stagnating in terms of new and innovative content. Next-gen games like Watch Dogs look like they're bringing some new ideas and gameplay that gets one excited about playing games again.

I highly doubt they would match the level of f high-ultra graphics the 680 and 7970 can do.

It'll be interesting to see if they make the 60 fps leap (for all games).

Consoles almost alwayd did match PC graphics on launch (or even surpassed) even if their specs are vastly inferior on paper. It'll probably be the same unless MS and Sony decide to use very outdated hardware this time around to save costs.

I will be so happy when they release these consoles. I personally hate using consoles, but they also happen to control how good looking games are. When these release, very few systems will be able to run the new games on ultra, more so on 3 monitors. I've seen the leaks of the new hardware in the consoles and it looks impressive. No doubt that with the release of new consoles will be the huge leap in graphical advancements rather than optimizations as they are now.
