Thats true but alot has changed since the ps3 and 360 were developed but we wont really know till the new gen get released so I will just leave it at that.biggrin.gif

I'm still interested in what kind of power these next gen consoles will have.

One correction: you can only consider the graphics hardware that is used on the Xbox 360 and PS3 as "very early-gen DX9 hardware" if you consider the current DX 11 hardware as late generation DX 9 hardware (as it technically complies with all previous DX standards). But if you do, you can't call the current DX 11 hardware as late generation DX 11 hardware, as we are only into the 3rd generation of DX 11, exactly the same generation we were in DX 9 hardware when the Xbox 360 and PS3 were released. The Xbox features a 3rd generation DX9c ATI GPU, belonging to the X1000 series, the first generation being the 9000 series and the second being the Xx00 (DX 9b) series. The PS3 also features a 3rd generation DX9c GPU, belonging to the GeForce 7000 series, the first generation being the FX 5000 series (DX 9), and the second being the GeForce 6000 series (DX 9c).

Who else thinks we're going to get the same old generic crap from Activision, EA and Ubisoft when the new consoles come out?

by quantum leap, they mean 3 generations ahead of current consoles, meaning still behind PC.

I guess it's all relative. I doubt to most of us here as PC enthusiasts we're going to be blown away. We've been there, done that. tongue.gif
Obviously, this is still going to translate to better looking games for us, even just as ports.

I just hope Remedy don't forget us this time around. One of the last great developers that haven't been swallowed by the big fat publishers.
Because, if I have to wait another year for the next Alan Wake (or, in my wildest dreams; the reacquisition of Max Payne) I will be terribly saddened.

No, the Xenos (360) was designed similarly to the R520, granted it's the first radeon DX9c card, it isn't really that early in the game (2005). DX9 debuted in 2002, with Nvidia fully supporting 9c in 2004. So for an entire year we had 9c compliance. You would say the 360 would have been mid-age hardware, still close to the end. Considering DX10 hardware came out the following year, the 360 was using the last generation of DX9 required hardware. It's not our fault that companies just drug DX9 on so long... Oh, wait, it kind of is.

I would personally be surprised if these new consoles came close to a high end PC in terms of resolution (1080p+), fps (60+), and graphical fidelity (high res textures, AA, and AF).

I mean back when xbox 360 was released it did come close to higher end PC's because it actually had close to high end PC hardware at the time it was released. However, this is NOT going to be the case for these "next gen" consoles so I would not count them being as close to PC's as xbox 360 was when it was launched.
