[GI] Remedy: Next-Gen consoles are a quantum leap - Page 6

I just keep thinking, they were able to get a full 7870 chip in the thermal envelope of a laptop with the 7970m, a console is allowed to pull more power than a laptop surprisingly.

Of course, I am not expecting anywhere near a 7870 or any particular chip actually, i'll just look forward to a new generation with native 1080p res, that way it won't look out of place on my 1080p tv that has not had it's use apart from when I occasionally play HD movies.

Also I don't know how they could possibly change the 360 controller, they got it pretty ergonomic and I don't see what could be done to improve it's fit really.

I look forward to the release. smile.gif

Sold my PS3, xbox has not been turned on in about a year or so. Will buy whichever console comes out first.

On the fence about the WII U at the moment.

With the current process technology (28nm), they can easily make GPU atleast 10 times more powerful than current console while having same die size as the original GPU of PS3 and xbox 360 (the original one was based on 90nm)

Looking forward to the next Gen of PC games. Remember the last time we got new consoles the original crysis came out. New consoles will push PC gaming forward as well I think...

Watch Dogs does look really good.

Absolutely it will. The current development process (or up until recently at least) for multiplayer games is that the developers have to make a game that will be fairly consistant against both new PCs and 8 year old consoles, the most feasible way to do that is to design most of the assets, textures, and techniques to run within a 256MB RAM envelope, and a very slow GPU (by today's standards). It's quite expensive to make a multiplatform game that could properly scale up to take advantage of newer PC technology, so most studios simple don't. Once the new consoles become mainstream then 3-4 year old PCs will become the new minimum specification and consoles will not be holding back PCs any longer, for at least a few years.

Behind in performance, ahead in ease-of-use (no worrying about hardware reqs, no driver issues, etc...), reliability (fewer bugs, almost never crashes or freezes), and usually cheaper as well. So excluding the group of people the prioritize performance, that leaves a much larger group of people that prefer consoles.

Rant aimed at the elitists on this site (not particularly the person I quoted above):

A fun game is fun, regardless of platform, regardless of graphics. There's nothing wrong with owning only a console, only a PC, or both, and nobody deserves ridicule for owning any kind of gaming machine. The fact is that they like games, and what they choose to play them on is their choice. The "glorious PC master race" argument is extremely immature and childish, reminds me of the insecure bullies in school that tried to make themselves feel important by showing physical superiority, but nobody really cared. While the PC elitists are busy crawling up on their pedestal so they can lecture about their superior hardware, everyone else is busy having fun and playing games. Why are they 'elitists'? Because it's like a country club where only the best hardware gets in so all of the pretentious rich guys can pat each other on the back and compliment each other on their epeens, while the rest of the world goes about its business and couldn't care less. I'm all for people wanting to get the best possible performance for a game, or the highest graphical settings; They should do whatever makes them happy, and it's their money to do what they want with. What isn't cool is when they feel superior because they put $1500 into their gaming rig instead of $300 like a console gamer. Other people have different preferences and priorities, not everyone is like us here on OCN and dump large swaths of money into a gaming rig that is usually outdated in 3-4 years, some people don't have that kind of money to throw around, or have other things they would prefer to buy instead, like putting that kind of money toward a car.
You clearly don't understand PC gaming...
A 300 dollar device that runs games barely at 720p where as PCs surpass that resolution by a significant margin and destroys it! Mind you, the ps3 at launch was sold for 899 dollars here which is already more expensive than what I built my PC for.

Also, who says you need to spend 1500 dollars each time you upgrade? I build my current PC for 750 bucks, and lets just say that things aren't exactly cheap compared to what you get in the states and I also paid a little extra for mine because I wanted to OC it and get more out of it. You know you don't have to rebuy every new gear for PC; you can reuse the case, PSU,monitor, mouse keyboard for your new build and that's the beauty about building PCs.

You can customize it so that you can keep the cost down. A Cheaper PC will beat a console no question about it.Besides you shouldn't compared to a PC at all. It's like comparing a bicycle to a motorbike.

I expect to only get the next XBox, but I remain pretty excited for everything. I'm incredibly fascinated by the amount of optimization companies can do with the given hardware.

Well the only two company I love

Blizzard and Valve and maybe paradox for m&b dont make game for console.. sorry

The day that consoles can be considered equals of PCs is the day they become PCs. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that a console would satisfy an average joe. It is also absurd to expect that advanced gamers (such as OCN's fine user base) would ever consider abandoning the freedom of a PC. There's nothing elitist about knowing all the strengths and limitations of each platform.

5entinel, the Ps3 was WAAY overpriced at launch the 360 launched at 399 not the usa price of 599 for the PS3 thumb.gif
