TV's Aspect Ratio Compared To Movies

Hi All

Don't know where else to post this, and since its something that annoys me on my HTPC here it is lol.

Why is it, that TV's are not made in the aspect ratio that movies come in.... I own a 51" 16:9 1920x1080 TV. Yet basically every single movie I play on it always has black bars on the bottom of the screen. And the aspect ratio looks more like 16:6 or something.

If I zoom to fit the screen, then obviously I am cutting off the sides of the image.

What is the point of a widescreen tv, if your still wasting half the screen in blackness.

/Rant

lol

Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Because those movies are in 21:9 ratio... there are a couple tv's out there in that aspect ratio, if you're only going to be using it for movies specifically [not tv, games, etc] then it work, otherwise, they are useless and just live with the black bars smile.gif

That or the 2.35:1 ratio also exists still, which gives the black bars. IDK, my monitor is 1920X1200, so I always have some black, doesn't bother me.

Bah lol. Its just weird, I was against widescreen for a while cause I liked my square. I thought the whole point of widescreen was to get rid of the black bars, but they still remain lol.

Use a projector with a 2.35:1 screen like THIS thumb.gif or a better one from Screen Innovations
