Pump Advice on New Build Please

Thread Starter
I know I need a lot of head pressure, but not sure whether to get the MCP35X or 35X2. I would prefer not to have all the additional noise, but if need be, so be it.

Parts:

Rampage 4 Extreme
3960X w/ XSPC RayStorm High Performance Acetal CPU Liquid Cooling Block - Special Edition Copper
XSPC X79 Rampage IV Motherboard Water Block Set

I plan to use 3/8 ID 5/8 OD Tubing, clear with Silver coil
Compression Fittings
Tubing gently arced across the board instead of 90 degree fittings between the MB cooling block(s) and CPU block

3 GTX 680 4GB fitted with EVGA Blocks, and their "3-Way Waterblock Bridge for GTX 680, PART NUMBER: M020-00-000240"

Rads are 2 X Black Ice SR1 420.

This will go in to a Mountain Mod Monticle 24, with the Rads/Fans just below in the Pedestal 24, so there isn't a whole lot of tubing length.

Comments on the pump would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Get the MCP35X2, with that many components it can only help. Those EVGA blocks are restrictive, but be sure to get the heatsink for the pump!

Nice build!

Thanks, ya, if it wasn't for the MB blocks probably be ok, but best to get the x2. Thanks for the tip on the heatsink, I didn't see that until now. Gonna have to figure a way to isolate it in a box inside the bottom with some airflow. I was concerned about regular sli fittings or Lok-Seal so eliminated that route. I don't know jack about pumps and pressure, so need help on this part.

Thank you.

Got some good ideas for decoupling the MCP35X2 Heat Sink from the case? In my last build the whine and vibration drove me nuts.
You can decouple it simply via rubber washers: get some with an inner diameter ever-so-slightly larger than the supplied screws for the "feet", have an outer diameter of 1/2 to 3/4 inch, and that are maybe 5mm thick (?). If you drill holes so that the feet can screw into the case bottom and use rubber washers on either side of each screw (or at least the side with the screw head), and it will dampen vibration just like HDD "silencers".
You don't want to put the dual pump in an enclosed space, as they can get hot. It's a wise idea, regardless of case airflow, to get an 80x15mm fan to mount to the heatsink, as it drops the temps even further (check martins liquid lab, but I believe it's good for Close to 30C temp drop combined).

As for fittings, stick with XSPC Compression Fittings, and use Bitspower rotary angled adapters or extension fittings if needed, they fit just fine.

mcp 355 is fine but if you are subconscious of temps then you can get a 600 series or something between.

I'm not worried about the temps to run, as I ran 3 - 480's flat out and hotter than heck on 2 X sr1 360's. I know the 680's run cooler and am going with 2- sr1 420's to reduce my cooling fan speed. I just don't know jack about pumps. I'd prefer to be on the quieter side as this PC will end up in a year and a half in a quieter room. Then again, could change out the pump. Will a 655 have enough head pressure, as they are quieter???

Thanks for the additional ideas, and nope, not planning on fully enclosing. looking a SilenX IXP-52-14 Ixtrema Pro 80mm x 15mm 14dBA 24CFM Fan on the heatsink, and at least making a box with open cell foam inside of it that will have air pulled through somehow from the rad cooling fans. I've gotten pretty good with these builds except for the pump part.

I appreciate the input guys,

Nice build!

Ya, thanks for the warning on the EVGA blocks, I gotta go 35x2. I'm looking at the evga sli top too. I need a lot of pressure.

I'll turn up the speakers...
