Question regarding input for headphones.

I posted a thread on here a few months ago in regards to buying some monitors for my desktop. After settling on the fact that I want Alesis M1Active 520 USB monitors, I found myself actually having to put off the purchase for a moment due to my rooming situation rendering me mostly unable to use said speakers should I get them.

Now I am looking into a solution for some headphones for mostly gaming, with a fair amount of music/video on the side. After checking with OCN's most recommended audio products I figured the A700's would be a good route for me, as the AD700's seem highly recommend despite lacking bass which the A700's have covered.

Now here is my dilemma. I would still like to purchase those monitors in the future, so keeping that in mind... How would my sound quality sound with A700's plugged into the front of the M1Active 520's vs let's say a Xonar DX

TL:DR
How will A700's sound when plugged into M1Active 520 USB monitors vs an Asus Xonar DX sound card?

It all comes down to the Amp/Dac that the headphones/speakers are plugged into. Plugging headphones into the Alesis does nothing if they're not connected to an external DAC/sound card and a good amplifier. You may not even want to plug them into the alesis because they're being amped which would distort the SQ more than it needs to be.

So you need a soundcard/external DAC either way you look at it.
