If you followed news about this game just a tiny bit you would know that the Developers OPENLY said that they were doing a loyal port. Everything stays true to console version, be it graphic quality, resolution, framerates....etc etc...
its meant to be like this, its not that they can't do better
and you know what i would like to see? Namco going ahead and patch this game so that this mod fails.
with that mentality they just might do it......and i love me some reality drama biggrin.gif

Please, you are trying to act like From Software did it so PC gamers would get some sort of "authentic experience" or something?

From Software, for whatever reason, are just not good at developing for PC. They said it themselves,

In any case it always flabbergasts me to read people actively wishing for bad things to happen to other people, even when it does not effect them one way or the other. I guess I should be used to it by now though, a lot of people are... well I can't say it here without violating TOS.

how much do they save by locking the framerate to 30?

and didn't we talk about this in the last thread about this exact same thing lord? I dont mean to be rude I'm just saying. The developers were all like oh we dont have much experience one porting games to PC so please bear with us if there are any problems.

Assuming they did have such a lock in the console version, when they port it to PC, will the FPS lock remain? And if it will, how much effort does it take to unlock the thing?

I suppose you have more knowledge on this part.

The guy who did the res hack also tried to unlock the FPS and it caused the game to become unnaturally fast.

haha, I love how some gamers are able to fix issues that game devs cannot!

The devs will not add/fix/change anything unless they're paid to do so. I doubt they would be unable to fix it.

I suppose you have more knowledge on this part.

Quite a bit of time actually, all code in the game that takes into account any kind of motion, rendering, input, etc, will have to take time into account. By locking at 30fps they can be sure that their game world is updating at the same rate it is rendering, that they won't miss input, etc. If they wanted to take variable time steps into account, and do it right, they would need to do the following:
  • Structure all functions and classes within the code that are responsible for any kind of movement or time-related update to now accept a variable for the time delta that has occurred between frames.
  • Update their rendering system to grab a copy of all position and orientation data at the time of last gameplay frame, and use that against data for any position/orientation changes in the pipeline so that the rendering can interpolate those values during each render frame. This would allow things to move smoothly even when the renderer is out-of-sync with the game. Some engines/games do not use this technique, but it often helps make a game smoother from frame to frame.
  • Separate out not only the gameplay from the rendering, as mentioned in the last point, but also separate out the physics timing. Physics must always run at a fixed time step or you will get very odd results like objects moving partially or totally through other objects. If a fixed framerate cannot be guaranteed then the physics world must be stepped async with the rest of the game.

There are probably many more things I'm not even thinking of a this point. If From Software had been thinking ahead at the possibilities they would have coded the game this way to begin with, and it wouldn't have taken that much time because it would've gone along with development, but having to re-work many systems that already work, after the fact, is a time consuming process. At least they've learned something from this, maybe in the future they'll code their games such that they'll more easily work on multiple platforms, making porting easier/faster/cheaper.

Do you honestly believe From's vision of their game includes being laggy and blurry with constant FPS dips?

As I have quoted above From Software has confirmed that these issues are a result of their lack of knowledge and experience with the PC. I would post the quote again but just read a couple posts up and you'll see the quote.
