I did the same thing with my 580 awhile back, But I ended up replacing the stock blower fan with a 80mm fan, cools the vrm's the same, but much quieter

What's good with this mod is that you have a card that looks like any other air cooled card out of the box. But wait, there's the (2) water cooling ports at the side. You have the option to either air or water cooled it by just taking off or putting on the waterblock. This is actually a plus if you sell this card later on. The buyer doesn't need to buy expensive full waterblock & going to all that hassle dismantling the entire piece. All you have to do is take the cover off, put the TIM, screw the small universal GPU block, put the cover back & that's it. You have yourself a water cooled card with extra air cooling & looks cool too.biggrin.gif

With the other hybrid water cooling mod done by some, you have to buy the Antec hybrid cooler & cut a round hole on the front cover. The end result is an ugly looking card.

This is a kind of mod that at first glance you'll say "I can do that but why did I not think about doing that before".doh.gif I don't know about you guys but I really think this is an impressive mod. If there's a "Mod of the Month" contest here at OCN I'll vote for this.

You can preserve the look of your card out of the box. An effective cost saving mod.

Which fan did you put there? can you place some photo? This is interesting as would blow directly on VRM.

Update:

Yep I saw it on your profile. Obviously is purly practical mod. But i like the idea more, over the other mod with passive VRM cooling. I'm sure that with very havy load (for sure overclocking) there is a danger of overheating, causing comp restart. Which actualy was happening with my system and I manually had to turn GPU fan to 50%, despite there where still mounted front alu plate and backplate, that are significantly helping with heat spread.

But thinking over again about your idea, there can be mounted one bigger fan on the side on computer's wall, which is blowing directly on their VRM area, and taking air from outside of the case. This also would make it a great solution.
From other hand I can see already mounted right the blocks which I like. It looks very nice.

There seem to be a lot of people out there who would really love a full coverage block for the 4GB variant of the GTX 680 FTW why can't we petition for one like the MSI fans did with there lightning card. They got the full coverage block they asked for and honestly personally I would pay up to $150 for each and I need .

If you can get about 50 people willing to buy a 4 Gb variant of the the FTW card then you can have Sidewinder get in touch with Watercool, Aquacomputer.etc to make that particular block.

From what I was told, cutting the cover or not you still void the warranty once you open the card's cover & water cool it,
