Will 2GB modules work with 4GB?

Hey,

few weeks ago I upgraded to new version of photohop, which said that needs 1GB of ram, but with my 4GB(2x2) my systems can't work properly, because the lack of enough memory. So I decide to do a minor upgrade buying 2x4GB. What do you think - shall I keep the old modules and add the new one, or shall I replace the old modules with the new one? It's not a problem to keep the old modules if it will work well.

I'm talking about the system in my signature.

Thanks in advance! smile.gif

You can add them, it will give you 12GB of usable memory, make sure that you're doing Slot 1 4GB, Slot 2 2GB, Slot 3 4GB Slot 4 2GB, that way everything runs properly in dual channel mode.

I suggest you keep the same speed and cas latency, you can't set 2 different timings for 2 sets of different ram.

You'd be fine using 12.
I'd balance the capacities between channels if plausible.

If they aren't the same speed they should still work they will just go to the lowest speed installed. I ran that on my Phenom 955 with four 2GB sticks where two were slower and had no problems.
