It’s not just new pencil cases that are in demand. Modern parents are under increasing pressure to buy their kids the latest hi-tech gadgets, with more than a quarter (26 per cent) admitting they feel under pressure to buy their child a smartphone, the survey by VoucherCodes.co.uk found.

Some lucky children will be the envy of all their friends, with one in ten parents prepared to spend more than £300 on an iPad for them. But the pressure to provide the best means a third of parents predict they will get themselves in to debt with these purchases.

I would like to have a phone just to be able to communicate when nessecary and check the time when gaming. Otherwise, I would need it much for anything else.

That's the sole reason I have a FB account: messages.

It only will put them in debt if they give into the little ankle bitters...

When I was in school we had one single PC for the whole family, one for five kids... Parents need to learn the word "no" and use it often.

I wish my parents could buy my laptop or pay for my tuition. I am now a slave to student loans. frown.gif

You know when I was in school and in college. I didn't see the need for even a laptop. It was easier for me to take notes on paper and it was easier to write my essays on a desktop. Anything beyond a laptop/desktop for school purposes is just a complete waste. Tablets are merely toys. They will not make your kids smarter, same with smartphones. All of that stuff are just gimmicks. They are media devices not made for productivity. The most productive thing I can do with my smartphone is email. Really? are you going to tell me that's an important item for a student to have? Especially if it puts your family in debt.
