You mean just like they tanked when "everyone" hated Vista, oh wait... You're giving the average person that buys a computer way too much credit. They don't know what operating system it comes with beyond MAC vs PC. Windows 7 vs Windows 8, they don't know the difference and they don't care.

How is that even slightly relevant? I don't think they should but what does that have to do with anything?

RIght I can see indie devs throwing themselves at the hated Windows 8 store for 30% cut when they could use the popular Steam, with major coverage, for the same 30% cut.

Steam dislike it because it closes them out of certain markets (the ARM market for one) and because it encroaches on their distribution market. Firefox were bitter for the same reasons of being locked out of certain markets.

I can see where the legitimacy of what the author is saying, but the way he swipes aside LEGITIMATE consumer/user complaints about Metro just makes me think this guy is a fanboy and I don't listen to fanboys.

I ran windows 8 for about 3 or 4 months, and besides the crashes, freezes, bugs, and seeps, it was great. If the OEM version comes out, and it is actually good, without the stupid crashes, I will use it.

I like Metro, I lke the way things are hidden.

I don't like the stability issues. So I went back to 7 for now.

Indie devs love app stores. It's literally that simple and it doesn't get any simpler.

You're naive if you think they won't flock if the Windows store gets a huge audience.

They will flood any store that has high usage stats. Its literally that simple.

The Apple store

The Android store.

Steam is also one such high customer volume app store.

THAT is the only reason why they are there. The high exposure rate that they get.

Now there is a Windows store. A store that nobody has to download. Its literally there on EVERY W8 PC.

The only reason they wouldn't put their work there for the crap tonnes of people who will be using W8 eventually is if they've been signed into exclusivity deals.

They pretty much have absolutely no reason not to. It's not like a piece can only be hosted in one place.

I'm not saying some won't come, but I think they'll be hesitant if it doesn't have any users. At least they won't have Valve pressuring them to do massive cuts and sales.

If Microsoft is competing against Valve, they are also competing against EA since they are in the same digital distribution market.

I wonder if MS gave developers a better price then Gabe? But how would blizzard be effected?

Exactly, having a Windows Store is actually good for gaming because it allows smaller developers that don't have their own distribution platforms like Valve, EA, and etc. to give their product more exposure. If you go to the Steam Store right now you will find plenty of developers that use Steam as their only means of distribution who would be thrilled to have their game show up in an ap store that's integrated with Windows 8 for all to see, rather than being limited to a relatively small number of people who are hardcore pc gamers and use Steam.
