[Gizmodo] You're being lied to: Windows 8 isn't bad for gaming - Page 7

I don't like the fact it looks and feels like a Tablet. I've never had a interest in tablets, nor will I buy one. So why should I have a tablet OS on my PC? Until they have a easy to convert system that still "looks" like windows and not a stupid Tablet I'll never switch. Simple as that.

I love how all the people being negative about this article and W8 are just completely missing the point of it. He's discussing gaming, not Metro. Metro doesn't affect gaming at all. All us gamers should be worried about is the potential for Microsoft to close off the platform ala Xbox Live. Then we're in trouble.

I cringe whenever I see "Kotaku", but interesting article nevertheless. Raises some good points.

be kinda neat if you could buy the game and it would work on xbox or your pc.

Windows current store is a joke unless its come a long way recently I have serious doubts. I have bought a couple of games through GFWL a while back and have had issues re downloading not too long afterwards. On top of that GFWL is pretty much universally hated among PC gamers. It takes a full couple of minutes to log in with any new game. Some of which require you to type in a cd key in game. I prefer the securom way of just doing a cut and paste in windows when installing. GFWL patches are a real pain in the ass. The UI is awful.

There is just so much wrong with GFWL. I am very skeptical that there will be any real progress. Another concern that I have is will they keep up with updates and what not? Look at what they did with MS security essentials. It was great at launch but they have been very slow to update definitions for a while now.

Most importantly, I'm not dealing with the Metro UI. Its just awful for a desktop or any productivity. I really think that this is going to be panned as much as Vista at release. I'll wait for the next windows. I think that this alone is going to kill Windows 8 market share.

what OS would you consider is "required" if you are a gamer?

microsoft IS a monopoly in every aspect of the meaning... especially in the gaming market which is the subject of discussion here.

Windows is not a monopoly. Developers not wanting to make games for OSX and linux is not the fault of Microsoft. Honestly.

microsoft is like ATX. it's not going anywhere because of its install base. we can all agree vista is a flop, but microsoft is still here... W8 can be a flop, microsoft will still be here because game developers MUST develop for microsoft. ALL gaming machines run microsoft. it may not run vista, it may not run W8, but it runs microsoft... that's why microsoft is a monopoly. until developers stop using DirectX, we will always be stuck with microsoft if you are a gamer.

Valve and all of it's games on Mac would like a word with you... Blizzard as well

EDIT: And all the indie devs that make their games compatible with other OS's

Devs don't HAVE to develop for windows, they CHOOSE to because of the bigger market share, that does not equal a monopoly.

who said anything about fault...
i'm simply stating a fact.
install base of microsoft makes it a monopoly. there are NO choices for computer gamers other then microsoft. that is the definition of a monopoly...

it's like saying ATX and its variants is a monopoly in consumer computer hardware. there is no "blame" assigned to ATX for BTX's failure. it's just a fact due to its install base...
