My Intel Computer I built 2 months ago is so messed up, Please Help

My computer is so messed up! I'm going to tell you the whole story, please bear with me. Ok, I came home from work (age 16) and my dad came up to me and said, "Your computer won't turn on, all I did was unplug the internet cord from the back." And sure enough, it was unresponsive. It would flash on and off really quickly every time I pushed the power button. I solved that problem by finding out that when my dad unplugged the cord from the back, that one of the standoffs on my motherboard came loose making the motherboard touch the metal case essentially shorting out the motherboard every time I powered it on. So I took everything out and put it back in to find that the powersupply I currently had was now failing from all the shorting out or something because everytime I powered on the system it would boot then restart and reboot saying something about anti-surge protector be activated because of a messed up power supply. So I went and bought a new better one. So I solved that problem. Now a new problem has risen, now I can't get passed the windows loading screen as it freezes. So I reseted CMOS only to find it did nothing. Then I tried to boot from the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD only to find it would freezed when the 4 color orbs (of the windows Logo) crossed paths. Then I entered safe mode and was able to get the Windows 7 setup and install showing. I proceded to delete my old partitians containing Windows 7 on my 60gb Intel Maple Crest 330 SSD. I then would install it and everything would go fine until it got past the first stage and rebooted to the "service screen" at which point it would freeze again. I then went into command promt and formated my SSD clearing it of everything. (oh I also forgot to mention I already tried the startup repair tool, it did not work) I then tried to get back to the Windows install screen, but I could not get to it no matter what I did. Windows would continue to freeze the orb stage I mentioned above. Even on safe mode, I could not do it. I just built this PC 2 months ago with top of the line parts. I don't know why this is happening. Could it be a hardware problem. I checked my RAM and it reads as it should in the Bios (8gb, 1333... {really 1600 frown.gif } ) I also used the Memory OK feature on my motherboard and it says that it did what it was supposed to do. All the tempatures are fine too (like 30 degrees C on both the CPU and Motherboard) What on earth could possibly be causing this problem? Please help, I've been working on this for 3 days now and it is extremely frustrating. I don't thing it is a faulty Windows disk as I have already succesfully installed it when I first built this PC. I've tried the 2 RAM sticks in different configurations. I've tried just one of them in. I've tried plugging the CD/DVD burner into different SATA ports. I don't know what else to do! Please help, help, help! Thanks in advance!

If I had to make a guess. The problem lies within your motherboard. Try an RMA.

I do have another HDD, but he problem doesn't lie in either of those, I unplugged both of them and the freezing still persisted

What hardware are you working with - please fill in your sig rig so we know what you have.

For starters, pull everything from the case.

Put your mobo, on a cardboard box and install just a single stick of ram, the cpu, heatsink, single hdd (via one of the native sata ports), the psu, and see if it will start up.

If not, move the single stick or ram to the other slots and repeat. (alternate dimms after all slots tried).

To me this sounds like mobo or ram. Did you inspect your mobo for any shorting/burn marks.
It's so little!

I already removed everything from the rig and it started up fine. I tried the 1 RAM stick solution in only one of the slots and it worked. I'll try the other slots to. No, I did not see any burns of any sort anywhere on the board, it starts up fine and I can get into the bios, it's when I hit the windows part. I already know it isn't the HDD or SSD as I unplugged both and it still froze. My specs are

i5-3570k
Intel Maple Crest 330 60gb
Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB
ASUS CD/DVD burner (if that matters)
Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x4gb) 1600 (but is running at 1333 as defult)
NZXT HALE82 750w Modular (the other power supply as the Corsair Builder Series CX600w V2)

Do you mean the 1 stick in every slot solution?
Quote:
I put the pair of them in the two different configurations recommended by ASUS, both read as 8gb, 1333
Quote:
Also I should mention ASUS P8Z77-V LK MOBO

Yup.

Did you try booting outside of the case?

Also just because the mb defaults to 1333 doesn't mean you can't set them to the specified speed
post #10 of 10
Freezeing in setup sounds like rams or motherboard or even cpu, do you have a Linux CD around to see if that works?

Linux is much more strict when it comes to hardware errors and would display MCE if it´s cpu, else it´s rams or mb.

Bet something is fried from the shorts.

Also booting it up to bios doesn´t mean it´s allright, in bios it just works in real mode with hardly anything active, when the windows kernel starts it switches cpu to protect or 64 bit long depending on if you go 32 bit or 64 bit and also it could be that a specific part is fried like a pci bus or usb and when that driver is loaded and takes control the fried part causes lockup.

Just checked 3570k is capable of 1600 mhz rams so it shoudl default to the higher speed.

Did you do load bios defaults, well says cmos reset so i guess yes.

Did you run memtest?. See if thats fried the Bios post memtest is pretty simple.
