Mouse and Keyboard work in UEFI, but don't work during windows 7 install

I'm trying to install Windows 7. I've just completed building the PC (parts detailed in sig below). I have no problems navigating the UEFI with both keyboard and mouse. However, when windows load, the motherboard lights go out, as does the Dr Error message (or whatever they call the two alphanumeric light). The lights on the mouse and keyboard also go out. Neither work, but windows expects me to select language, etc.

I've googled the problem and I turn up all sorts of advice, most of which I've tried. I tried a different mouse. I tried a different keyboard. It's as if they're not getting an opportunity to load the drivers for them before windows starts from the disc. But, they (both keyboards, both mice) work fine in UEFI.

Any suggestions? I've not been able to nail down an answer that works from searching this and other forums.

Furthermore, while it seems that many people's similar problem involved returning to a "legacy" keyboard or mouse, using the PS/2 port rather than USB -- I've both tried this and it didn't resolve the problem, and more importantly, I believe it wouldn't matter what type of keyboard, mouse, or port I use because I believe they're all out of commission once Windows 7 boots. I think this because all the lights on the motherboard go dark once windows starts. It's as if the motherboard is no longer in use, nor anything plugged into it.

Also, not necessarily related, but when I try to use the ASRock Z77 Extreme9 Driver disc as a boot disc, these are the error messages I receive. It doesn't seem to update the UEFI to the version listed on the disc. It remains in 1.40 regardless of whether or not I use the boot disc/driver update disc.

I'll attempt to update UEFI with USB from the ASRock site, since it doesn't seem like the disc that came with the motherboard is doing anything but giving me the screen from above. However, it doesn't seem like it would matter if I update from 1.40 to 1.60, because the mouse and keyboard should work in either for Windows 7.

Edit: I was not able to update to 1.60. I put all the files from the install disc and the BIOS update from the ASRock Z77 Extreme9 website on the flash drive. I attempted to Flash update from the UEFI screen. It detected the file, but did nothing with it. It just named it on the screen, but then asked if I wanted to refresh or configure. Neither selection did anything to update the BIOS from 1.40 to 1.60.

This is where it begins to fail:

Windows loading files...keyboard and mouse still work.
Starting Windows....keyboard and mouse still work.

But once the blue screen appears, and it asks, "Language to install....Time and currency....keyboard or input method..." this is when the mouse and keyboard lights go out and stop working. Yet, they work in the UEFI and also work prior to the blue screen on windows. I can tell they're working during the windows loading files and starting windows because I can repeatedly hit buttons and hear the onboard speaker click, as well as the lights are on up until the blue welcome screen.

Well, I'm not calling it a victory yet, but I seem to have weathered this storm. I tried the silliest sounding suggestion from a google search. One guy recommended to just restart the computer a few times and take the mouse in and out of different USB ports. It sounded so dumb I didn't try it until it was just a feeble last ditch option.

I took it out of a USB port during the Windows load, then re-inserted it in another USB port and suddenly the cursor showed up and the mouse worked. Right now Windows is installing. So we'll see what issues come up next. thinking.gif
