660ti vs 7970 - Page 6

AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition I cant find that one anywhere:p
Is it out yet? when does it come out ?
all the Ghz edition is a bios update for a higher factory overclock. kind of like the scam that nvidia has going on. send out cards that are highly overclocked from the factory but the actual processors are mid range.

what's better? a card at low clocks that can overclock to 50% it's original clocks or a card at high clocks that can only reach 10%? (hypothetical numbers, but you get my drift)

I see, well I wanted to run 660 ti SLI so I would be set for quite some time and not needed to upgrade cards for a while:O
Is that a bad idea?
yes going straight for sli is usually a bad idea. Would be better IMO to go for a 7970 or 680.

No, you don't need anything else to 'cool it with'. Video cards come with coolers installed. Other than the PCB and I/O bracket on the end, the entire rest of the video card is the cooler wink.gif

However, anytime you run a high-end graphics card like this one, you do want to make sure your case has decent airflow in general.

Since you've decided on the AMD card, I'm moving this thread to the AMD GPU forum.

People pick brands by warranties, customer support and reliability. I chose my Diamond because I got mine right when it came out and it was the only one in stock. tongue.gif I'm happy with the 5 year warranty though.
Btw don't get sold on the OC editions and crap, My reference is on the Ghz bios and it's running fine. These cards overclock fairly easily.

Well it's the only one they've right now, and I really can't wait any longer, should I just go for it ?

Just get it. You should be fine. Not sure where you are getting it from though tongue.gif.

As for case cooling...as long as your case has good air ventilation (wires tucked away, nothing obstructing air flow, etc) you should be fine.
