Here's my first attempt at a chiller - Page 5

Finally got the holes drilled in the side of my case and put it all together. I think I'm finally done. The only thing I would still like to look into is getting a bigger psu to handle the tec's. May buy one and swap out psu's to really push this thing! Thanks for the interest and I will update my results of testing it's limits when I build my new rig in the near future. For now here's a couple pics of the finished product:

Also, I may have solved my instability issue. When I was putting everything back together, I was in too much of a hurry when I put the ram in. I almost broke a slot. So I ran memtest today and it was failing like crazy. Did some dimm swapping and my have solved the problem, no more errors.

Either way, I already ordered an I7-3770K, Asus P8Z77-V Pro/Thunderbolt, and 32gb of G Skill ram. Will post test results next weekend prolly. And will also be getting other components as my wallet allows.

Subbing this. Id like to see it with the new board chip ram. And benchmarks new and old too.

Got the new parts in today and have them installed. Running w stock cooler now so I can get an idea of how hot this 3770k runs. Not bad so far. I will say the i-gpu doesn't perform as well as my old 8800gts 640mb. I started off w just the cpu to check out the i-gpu performance. Didn't do so well with games so I put the 8800 back in. Will be upgrading that to an his iceq boost clock 7950 soon. I also don't know optimal bios settings for the i-gpu though, so that may have something to do with it.

Now that I know everything works, I will insulate the mobo and get back to chilling!

Chiller's back on and temps are falling.
Waiting to see how low it gets at idle, then will start prime95 or folding.
475 watts - no load on cpu, 187 watts - chiller off no load on cpu
578 watts - full load folding including gpu.
I should also mention what all is being measured when I'm spouting wattage usage: everything! PC tower, monitor, speaker system, tec psu, and I think I was charging my tablet too. Either way, I just plug my surge protector into the kill-a-watt.

3hrs of folding @ 100% cpu load = 47 53 49 51 max core temps
idle minimum temps so far = 5 8 5 14
Temps go back to ambient immediately after I remove load then fall from there.

Going to have to insulate a little better. I did pretty simple insulating, but temps are getting down to 2c and I'm getting worried that I didn't insulate enough.

So it seems I'm a folding millionaire. I don't know exactly what that means to be honest. I just started it as a way of putting a load on my unstable system bc prime95 would crash, but folding would keep running fine. I've ran it a total of 3 times, and have tried to let it complete it's "task" each time. I'm only posting this bc I just noticed that in my sig area it says folding millionaire.

Nastroglide, nice chiller! Seems to be working pretty good for you. One thing we found was the the limiting factor for most chillers is heat rejection / heat transfer (having a large enough reservoir /heat sink / ability to reject the heat at a good rate). My best one used 2 inch fins around an aluminum water manifold. We did a study a few years ago where we varied the water flow rate and other parameters and the properties of the manifold/chiller reservoir was where the biggest bang for the buck was. The best one we made has a 0.040" thick aluminum wall stock, 2 inch fins around 3 sides of it.

I'm getting rid of heat pretty well. I have a 1*F difference in the liquid media being chilled and the actual chilled reservoir. I could get it to go colder if I remove more heat from the pelts, but I don't really see a need to. I'm about to build a new heat exchanger with all aluminum parts to eliminate the problems of mixing metals.

Can't really picture what you're describing, have any pics? Sounds interesting.
