24" Monitor

Thread Starter
Guys,

I'm going to buy a new monitor this Monday and need some help choosing the right model.

I'm hesitating between "IPS" and "TN" model, as I want to get best value for my money. As I am not a graphic designer or smth, I do not need new, super expensive monitor. It has to be something with reliable quality, good price and, of course, good picture quality (~acceptable for gaming.

I wanted to buy Dell U2412M <<IPS, but it's a bit expensive for me (I'll buy it if I won't have other choice).

Maybe there are some good TN monitors on the market right now ? Or other good IPS monitors in this price category? I don't want to buy some cheap ***** smile.gif but still, the price plays a big role smile.gif

Thanks a lot for any advice!

Oh yeah smile.gif I'm living in Europe, so the price range is up to 260 euro ( as for this price I can afford Dell U2412M).
Well if you can afford the Dell U2412M it is definitely a great monitor. Additionally if you have the money to buy an IPS over a TN I would also absolutely recommend that. A monitor is something that you can (and hopefully will) use for a very long time. Much longer than video cards or processors that get outdated every few years. So make sure you save up as much as you can to get exactly what you want.

260 euro? So not quite enough for a cheap korean / Catleap. The jump to 2560x1440 if you're willing to go to 27" is worth it imo. I'm not going back any time soon (as I type this on my 11.1 inch netbook at 1366x768 TN.... heh)

I personally still don't actuallt get what's wrong with TN monitors.

Mine is clear, bright, lots of colour, show nice blacks and whites, and is lovely to use and gives me no eye strain.

I thought the same thing until I played on my friends Asus Pro Art monitors and it made me wish I wasn't a poor college student haha

Yes, and IPS compared to a TN is way better, but there are tons of people that say "TN monitors are crap, never buy one, only go IPS" and I think that kind of statement is completely wrong, if TN's were that bad no one would have one, and it certainly wouldn't be the most common type of monitor, I'm just saying biggrin.gif

Agreed, TN panels can definitely look great. Heck, I'm still using them and they look fine. An IPS is definitely work the extra money if you can afford it though

Ok guys,

What TN monitors can you advise me? smile.gif Thanks!

I've just ordered a system with Sapphire HD 7950 OC (~300 euro). Maybe I should have saved some money on the videocard and buy Sapphire 7870 for (~250 euro)? I can still do that as the order has not been processed yet.
