2010, I agree with a lot of what you say, but I still think you're somewhat missing the point. You can't point to a sole Android device and say "yes, Apple stole ideas from this particular phone, from the design of it right down to the icons."

I just think the sum of what Samsung did crossed the line far enough to piss Apple off and cause these lawsuits, and rightfully so. Apple isn't going after every phone out there for something like slide to unlock.

The fact is they had the guts to actually patent something so simple. Slide to unlock was around a LOOOOOONG time before the iPhone, or Apple's patent. However, they saw an opportunity to hurt the competition, so went with it. I mean, google didn't patent the slide-down notification menu that Apple copied from them, nor the camera-at-the-unlock screen thing. Why? Because they are simple implementation of UI things. It would be like Microsoft patenting the start-bar back with Windows 95 - it would be insane. Its too simple of an invention.

I'm fine with people/companies patenting things that actually take effort or more than 10 seconds of though - like Intel patenting the architecture of their CPUs.

The fact they got away with the patent, took Samsung to court, AND won with patents like "Pinch to Zoom" is even worse.
