The case was a victory for design infringement and intellectual property owners everywhere, not just Apple. The reward is a penalty reminding the defendant not to pursue the same course of action again.
Just like a DUI, initial fines and traffic school for first time offenders, the fine and penalty increases and for repeat offenders, but of course according to your logic, fines are all about money. rolleyes.gif

Only a super naive or biased person who believed that this is not about money.

I think when people say it is not about money, they mean the money that was awarded to apple. We all know apple has a pretty big bank account, that 1 billion seems like alot but to them it is nothing. THAT is what people mean when they say it is not about the money. More about forcing the competition to cower in a corner and eventually exit the market.

Think long term folks! Apple has more money than anything needs, they want power.

Anyone who believes that this is not about money is delusional and needs to get their check examined. What is the #1 goal for any corporation? To Make Money.

What is Apple's #1 Goal? To Make Money.

They aren't the richest company in the world by accident. They minimize costs, and maximize profits, and do what ever they can to eliminate any competition.

How is this not about money? Let's examine it.

1. The outcome and reward of this lawsuit was $1 Billion. Regardless of how much money Apple already has, they are GETTING MONEY.

2. Now that they've gotten this victory, they're going to use it to their advantage and get as many devices as they possibly can banned. By banning other devices, that means less competing products, which means people will have less choices, more people will buy iPhones.

Samsung has been taking marketshare away from Apple, since they will now have less competing products, Apple will naturally gain some marketshare back.

What happens when you start gaining market share back? That's right, you make MORE MONEY.

If this wasn't about money, Apple would license some of their patents. Being a greedy company that they are, it's far more profitable to have less competition.

So again, how is this not about money? kookoo.gif

I love how you simplify it so everyone reading can easily understand. thumb.gif You're right, all lawsuits, small or big, is all about money.

and I would like to add to that: more people will pay more for technological items they would otherwise be paying less for because Apple is demanding huge profit margins.

If there's anything Apple is blind about it's the fact that they are screwing over the citizens of the world with their so-called "innovations".  If this was really about values, they'd recognize that fact. They'd be lenient to the competition and they'd sell their iPhones at lower profit margins. The consumerist perspective that anyone can figure out that Apple is following is largely threatening in my view.  Not everyone has this kind of technology in their hands yet. Smartphones and gadgets (and such technology in general) shouldn't be thought of as objects to be saved up for, bought, and consumed; they are tools that everyone should be able to have and use for benefit for the rest of their lives.

Think of how productive every member of society could be if they didn't have to pool hundreds of dollars for a device that wouldn't do any better than one that costs less.  Except now, there won't be any devices that cost less - Apple is going to do as always recklessly use their patents to try and ban them all.

The decisions made today will be a turning point that we will all have to face in the years to come. We could all be headed down a far more glorious and advancing path but now it's something we can only dream of.

The only thing that can come out of my mouth today now that all this is over are these painstaking words:
"I once dreamt of a better world"

Why can people only patent say the shape of a bottle of coke? This is such a messed up world. Every single day I wish I was still a kid, when everything was just happy and good.

Part of me wished samsung and its partners (sony, lg, etc) would just say enough is enough. Cut off apple, they have enough capital to start making their own components. People follow apple like blind sheep.

P.S I love the design of the GS3, miles ahead and better than any iPhone. I won't be surprised if apple started launching glasses, for all those millions who are forced to use a device with such a tiny screen.
They can't cut them off, they have contracts. If they did, Apple would be able to sue them for tens of billions of dollars for damages. And Samsung probably makes a lot more off Apple than they've lost from being sued by Apple.

According to the judge, the Samsung F700 doesn't even exist.
It wouldn't have invalidated Apple's claims at all. The conversation between Samsung execs which basically said to make their smartphone more iPhone-like pretty much damned them, and it's why they lost so much, since it proved that they wilfully and purposefully copied the iPhone.
