Advice on WC'ing 3930k

Thread Starter
Got my self a 3930K and will be swapping it into my sig rig.

So problem is i have a HAF 922 and reading about it seems like only a 240mm rad fits and 360mm if i take the dremel out.

As its my first time WCing i am keen to get one of the XSPC Raystorm kits, but i want to know whether the 240mm Rad will be big enough to get a really good overclock (maybe 4.5-4.8Ghz)?
I have not done much testing yet, but with offset Vcore set to 0.005v, it boots into Windows at 4.6Ghz, decent?

Also i want to know if building a custom loop what are the parts required? Is it worth me scouting out a better 2nd hand water block and putting it together my self?

Appreciate any advice and any tips.

Thanks

Raystorm kit should be good. I would opt for the 360, unless u are cool with louder fans

Well ill only need to crank up the fans when Prime95'ing otherwise i assume i will be able to run them on low (1000RPM) pretty much all the time?

On a rx480 by itself with admittedly crappy 1200rpm fans mine maxed out at about 65-70

What kind of Vcore you pushing and whats your ambients?

How about the XSPC Raystorm 750 RX240 kit, that has a really thick Rad 53mm, would that help being thats its only a 240mm? Also i dont plan to put my GPU in the loop.

just shy of 1.37 on the voltage, and yeah that's fine, i was only running the cpu on the 480 for a while, i have a 480 and a 360 now tongue.gif

a rx240 will cool the chip and leave some room for overclocking, how much headroom that will leave for overclocking will depend on the chip and the fans you use. If you consider 4.5 to be a good enough clock then you should be fine. I was able to hit 4.5 with a scythe ninja but it did get up towards 80c
