Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB Good?

Thread Starter
So Scan.co.uk have it on offer for £64.98 and I need a larger SSD. Have the SandForce issues been solved? II shouldn't have any BSOD issues/freezing on my P8Z68-V/GEN3 with latest firmware?

Also, should I reinstall Windows onto the 120GB SSD or should I leave Windows on the Crucial M4 64GB and just use the full 120GB SSD for games? Is there any advantages/disadvantages to both of these options?

Thanks.

I have a sandforce based OCZ Vertex 2 drive and have had no issues with it. I'd possibly hold off until you could afford a 256GB drive (they start at like £140)

On a different note, I am loving SSD prices right now and am so close to pulling the trigger on a 256GB one. Heck I remember when HDD prices were £1 per GB now SSD is £0.50 per GB and still falling, good times cheers.gif

Yeah I'm not too sure how long it'll be before 240/256GB SSDs hit the sub-£100 mark or if they even will.

They are nearly there now, I think another 6 months or so and we can expect those kinds of prices for 256GB and you could also sell your M4 for £40 on ebay to recoup some of the cost.

Yes. The firmware revision released last winter resolved the Sandforce BSOD issues. In my experience the controller is as reliable as any other today.

Nope.

The HyperX 120 will be significantly faster than the M4 64, so there's really no reason not to put your OS and programs on it. If you're still sheepish about Sandforce's reliability then using it purely as a storage drive might ease your worries, but there's no real reason to do that imo.
