Right choice of DDR3

Hello

Asrock Z77E-ITX
i5 3570K
Corsair H80

Would be good if I can reach 4.5GHz, but will take anything above 4.0Ghz.

I am looking for 2x 8GB DDR3
Is it worth getting a 2400MHz or a low latency CL7 1600MHz instead of a cheap CL9 one?
Is Intel XMP important?

For instance:

1600MHz PC3-12800
1.5V
2x 8GB

>CORSAIR Vengeance
CL9-9-9-24
120$

>G.SKILL RipjawsX
CL7-8-8-24-2N
Intel XMP
200$

2400MHz PC3-19200
1.65V
2x 8GB

>GEIL Evo Corsa
CL11-12-12-32
195$

>G.SKILL TridentX
CL10-12-12-31-2N
Intel XMP
240$

Why buy any of those? Are those all 8GB kits? Those seem expensive.

Buy Samsung DDR3 RAM and OC it to 2400+. Most people can OC them to about 2200+. Seriously, they are the best performing RAM out right now.

I'd go for the higher speed ones. Generally they more or less are able to go the same timings those standard speed low timing sets go. That way you can have a choice of selecting either a lower timing or guaranteed higher speed when overclocking.

It doesn't come in 8GB sticks. He's using a motherboard with only two slots so it's end all when he buys it.

I have ordered 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance, hopefully I'll be getting them soon. Judging from reviews, they seem pretty good.

Samsung RAM is nice and all, but it isn't available everywhere. At least here in Norway I have yet to find Samsung RAM. Switzerland is not too far away, but not sure if Samsung RAM is available there.

I bought another set of Vengeance because my set was defective and I RMA'd it. I like it and it looks amazing. I got White and Blue LPs, and waiting for my brother to need a new set to get Red LPs so I can complete my Patriot build. smile.gif

Stay away from
G.SKILL TridentX
CL10-12-12-31-2N
Intel XMP
240$

If you read the Feedback on it on Newegg it does not work for people with 3570ks.. G>skill themsleves are telling people it is 3770k only... NewEgg has it listed to work but it does not.

Thx everyone for your inputs! smile.gif

Hokies83> got it, no TridentX for me!

Swag> Stefy is right, from what I see, no Samsung memory available here unfortunately. No Corsair LP either frown.gif

Following your idea, that leaves me with the GEIL Evo Corsa running either CL11@2400MHz or CL7@1600MHz, right?

It is yet not quite clear for me how the RAM is going to be overclocked along with an Ivy Bridge CPU...
My last and only experience was to push my P4 to 4GHz playing with the FSB only, so fast DDR was a must.
But here with the multiplicators, I've read that the FSB or BCLK won't be accelerated that much, maybe from 100 to 104MHz. If that's right, will a fast memory still be that important compared to a low CL?

Maybe I just need a link to a good Ivy Bridge or Z77E overclocking guide... rolleyes.gif

As I finally would like to have low profile RAM, my choice is:
G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) CL10-11-10-2N
Decent price, speed and timings biggrin.gif

Mainboard:

ASUS P8H77-I

I got these RAM modules :

KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX

http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/khx1600c9d3x2k2_8gx.pdf

might have been clever to order low profile RAM. doh

I didnt open the box yet so its still factory sealed. Do you think its worth trying to return them or selling or will they fit ?

or will i be better off with these :

http://www.corsair.com/memory-by-product-family/vengeance/vengeance-low-profile-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cml8gx3m2a1600c9.html

also they run 1600MHZ at 1.5V not 1.65 like the Kingston...
