2GB of vram enough for gaming @ 2550x1440?

Thread Starter
I currently have a Gigabyte GTX 670 OC 2GB graphics card and am thinking about buying another one for SLI. I was just wondering if 2GB vram would be enough with this resolution. Just looking for the most performance at a reasonable price. I thought about selling my 670 and buying either two Galaxy 660TI 3GB or two Galaxy 670 4GB.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance thumb.gif

There are only a handful of games that come close to or exceed a 2GB frame buffer, (BF3/Skyrim with mods etc) so you will be fine with your 670, I would not recommend getting a 660ti 3GB as you are gaining memory yes, but you are losing GPU grunt in the process. A 2nd 670 would hold you in good stead indeed, though there is no need to downgrade to a 3GB 660ti or shell out $50+ more for an 4GB version of the 670, 2GB 670 SLI would be awesome at 1440p

I have a 1440p monitor and only Metro 2033/BFBC3 dip below 60FPS and this is with a GTX 570, 670 is about 20%+ more powerful, you do the math. cheers.gif

After you SLI those Gigabyte cards, let me know how it turns out. I'm in the same boat.

I just got my 2GB 670 this week and it works great for 1440p. I haven't found any games that use more than 1800mbs or so (besides skyrim with 4k textures). Without mods all games seem fine I've tested with Heaven, Metro, Crysis 2, Witcher 2, Shogun 2, BF3, Batman AC, Mafia 2, and several other games... Vram doesn't seem to be an issue.

Skyrim I the only games I have seen reach the 2GB limit but that only in certain areas with the highest res texture mods I could find biggrin.gif
