Unable to install windows 7

Thread Starter
Trying to install x64 windows 7 on my vertex 3. My computer was stolen and the guy installed w7 on my hdd, but left my ssd install of w7 intact.
I wiped both ssd and hdd since I want a clean install (who knows what else he did.)

I formatted the ssd and delete partitions.. I have one ssd and hdd unplugged with only system installation ssd.
I go to install and i get "setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate existing system partition.

I tried creating a new partition, and refreshing and nothing.

Help? I want to get this done tonight..

And you are going to Custom Installation and not Upgrade correct?

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be because my SSD was set to my boot drive, once I Disabled it in the Boot Options menu it installed fine. then I just had to enable it again and I was good to go.

Yes custom install.

I'm installing from USB drive, so that's in boot option.
In bios it detects the ssd and my hdd.smile.gif.

Well, I wish I could help more. A quick google on the problem and i found someone who was having a similar problem. Here was the solution for him:
Quote:
I had exactly the same problem.

Here's what I was initially doing:

Boot device 1 = CD-ROM
Boot device 2 = Blank Intel SSD
Boot device 3 = USB stick with ICH10R AHCI drivers

Setup starts fine, you can load the drivers, it lets you choose a partition but then says "unable to create system partition".

The solution for me was as follows:

1) Do not have USB stick plugged in when booting, so only:
Boot device 1 = CD-ROM
Boot device 2 = Blank Intel SSD

2) At the setup page which says you can load other drivers, insert the USB stick, then click the link and load the drivers

3) Unplug the USB stick

4) Continue with setup

I've reset my BIOS, formatted the drive again, unplugged all other drivers and peripherals, put windows7 on the flash drive again.
I'm lost. I've tried another drive too

I suspect that the issue is related to you installing from a USB flash drive. Try changing boot settings, like if it boots as a UEFI device or not. And try different USB ports, if it's in USB3 then that might be the problem.

Try it from a DVD if you can get one of those ancient things tongue.gif

Got a feeling it's a problem with either how you have Windows on the USB drive, or how your BIOS is seeing things.
