My cousin's looking for a new laptop to start off the school year. He is pretty much a noob when it comes to laptops, and couldn't even answer basic questions when I asked him (screen size, hdd/ssd, ram size, etc). So I'm just going to throw out what I think his dad wouldn't mind getting.

What is your maximum budget?
less than $1000... $700 is optimal

What country are you in?
US

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Mainly school work. Some intense gaming and movies every now and then. I'm guessing HD 4000 should suffice.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
He doesn't have one. I prefer Sony or Asus. Acer is acceptable.

What screen size do you require?
Between 15" and 16"

What screen resolution do you require?
At least 1366 x 768.... 1600 x 900 or higher preferred

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
New

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
6+ hours

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
I'm not sure. But like i said, HD 4000 should suffice

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows 7 Home Premium minimum

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Doesn't matter as long as it's silver or dark colored.

How much hard drive space do you need?
500+ GB HDD or 320+ SSD

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
DVD drive.
at least 1 USB 3.0 preferred.
decent (1.3+MP) webcam.

Is there anything else we need to know?
This is a really minimal config for laptops around that price range. I was pretty much wondering what everyone else is getting, and what they recommend.

Thanks in advance!
