Rad materials, how much does it matter?

Thread Starter
So since my loop is getting out of hand here I'm looking to get another 420mm rad.
I've never really paid much attention to the building materials but it seems like radiators can come in all kinds of metal.
Most rads are made of brass 'n copper but there are also Aluminium rads and full copper rads.

So how much of a difference in temps is there really?
Because full copper rads cost about twice as much as brass rads and I can't really imagine it's worth the money thinking.gif

Design has much more to do with rad performance than does material of construction.
That being said, copper is the better heat conductor of the materials you mentioned.

For the money, the copper Alphacool NeXXos UT60 420 is phenomenal ($99 and almost entirely copper), in fact it is the current best overall performer, period. It also scales incredibly well with fan speed, just like the XSPC EX series, but the UT60 does much better at lower fan speeds than the EX can.

Just don't ever use a radiator that has aluminum that touches the water, as it will begin to corrode the copper blocks immediately and permanently damage or destroy them. Aluminum bad, copper good! smile.gif

Actually the copper doen't get as much damage done to it as the alu does. By the time the copper actually starts seeing degradation you probably already have holes and water leaks in the alu parts.

I also vouche for the UT60's full copper construction.
